Yes, Hong Kong was under British rule until 1999. China acquired Hong Kong in 2000.

Macau was ruled by Portugese until Year 1999

even thought Hong Kong and Macau return to Mainland China now, Hong Kong citizens and Macau citizens still need permit to visit mainland china every time, and vise verse.

by the way, Hong Kong citizens and Macau citizens still consider as foreigners in Chinese government.

yes to the above( Hong Kong, Macao). Manchuria was occupied also, by the Japanese from the 30's to the end of the war
