it's not rocket science, you need a desent board expect to pay around 60-100 online or 100-150 from a local skateshop, you don't need the most expencive board or gear I recoment just a blank board or a cheaper pro board from ebay. they come complete and run around $75 and are just like any other board from a local skateshop, they come from skateshops put together buy professionals so it's the same thing only cheaper.

Next, kick and push, find a long stretch of concrete and ride around gaining ballance (it's the first trick you ever learn) next try to ollie..without the ollie you can't do much so it should be one of the first tricks you learn after you are comfortable with skating.

It's not easy...some people are naturals..most are not it takes time and practice and does help to have someone who's done it there with you to give you some pointers. Don't be scared to go to a skatepark and ask for some pointers we skaters don't bite...much :-P, good luck and welcome to the sport, that comcast thing for sportskool is awesome too I've been doing this for 15 years and that helped me on some new tricks that I just could never get down, I also forget tricks just like anyone so practice practice and more practrice will make you one damn good skater.

Well, there's skateboarding (using it as a mode of travel - easy) and there's skateboarding with tricks (doing moves and stunts - hard) The latter takes a lot of time to learn to do well and there will be some major bonks along the way

first go to a skateshop and get a good board. excpect to spend at least 130 dollars. after you have your board youll want at least a helmet u dont need the pads but when your first starting you will fall and you might want pads.

after you have all the stuff go out to s paved area. get comfortabla with standing and pushing.
then learn tricks like tic tac(online sites can teach that).
then after a few weeks try to go down really small hills and just ride around every were.

then when u feel comfortable try to learn an ollie(online teaches it)
and a shuv it.
if your not looking to do tricks get a longboard there for a really smooth ride and cruising around.
(once you know those tricks practice them every day. if you have on demand from comcast go to sports then sportskool and then skateboarding they have basic lessons there.)

Find a small hill (and I MEAN small--one not much taller than you) and strap on the board. Then try going down this straight on at first, until you get comfortable with the stance. Then try changing directions. (This is done the same way as skate boarding on wheels--you lean back on the back of the board to lift the front, and then guide it into the turn you want to make.) Try then to practise stopping by turning perpendicular to the slope and digging the heel edge of the board in to the snow.

Once you feel comfortable on your first small hill, find a slightly higher, slightly steeper one, and start all over again with the basics, then work yourself up to all the other moves.

If you have done much surf boarding on wheels, picking up the tricks to make the board work well on snow will be easy.

The most important thing for you to remember, is that your feet are strapped solidly onto that board. If you get into trouble, you aren't going to be able to get free of the board. When you get into trouble SIT DOWN and start dragging your arms at your sides like anchors. A lot of boarders are killed by becoming hung up in the tops of trees. Don't ever become airborne unless you have gotten to the point where you feel confident that you can handle the landing. DO NOT board near trees.

My best advice to you is to relax have fun and expect to fall and get hurt. In this sort of sport you will get hurt try not to worry about it, it happens to everyone who loves to skate. You need plenty of practise and don't worry if you don't nail tricks first time, practise and your skill will come remember don't worry about falling. If you interested "lords of dog-town" is a film about 3 kids who kicked of boarding in such a big way it made it into the international sport it is today. GOOD LUCK.

hey im a skater myself its actually pretty easy once u get the hang of it. there are two kinds of position. goofy and regular.goofy is when u kick with ur left foot and regular is with the right one. first u want to try to stand on it maybe grass and carpet will help a lot just stand once u got ur balance go outside and try kicking with ur left foot and then right . which ever is comfortable will do.to turn theres leaning and kickturns or check this cool website check it out. dont worry if u dont do good first keep trying practice makes perfect right?.................good luck
