Deu 18:21 And if you say in your heart, How shall we know the word which Jehovah has not spoken?
Deu 18:22 When a prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah, if the thing does not follow nor come to pass, that is the thing which Jehovah has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You shall not be afraid of him.

I believe it's in Matthew 7:15-29 where it talks about how to tell a false prophet from a real one. But there are so many places, like listed above, that talk about false prophets. I suggest going to www.biblestudytools.net and typing "false prophet" into the search. Good luck

Matthew 24:24
Mark 13:22
2 Corinthians 11:13
The best way to tell a false prophet is to apply
Jihn 1:1, which says that Jesus is God.
A false prophet will never agree that Jesus is God but will call Him only the "Son of God" or a great prophet or a great teacher.

Let me help... Some one who tells you what to do is a false prophet... someone who teaches how to figure out for yourself what to do is a true prophet.

The answer is in the First Letter of St. John. See Scripture quotations below. I offer this summary:
1. St. John says that whoever denies Father and Son does not have the Spirit within him. Therefore, if he leads one on a path that is not of the Spirit, then he is in opposition to him. But it is the actions of the person that determine if he is of satan or not, but these deeds done in secret will be made manifest. St. John says to follow the Holy Spirit of whom you were sealed for redemption, and you will know where to go and the righteous path.
2. Men who live according to the flesh, do not have the Holy Spirit within them.
3. St. John also accordingly says that men who do justice, are of God whether they profess the same faith as we do or not. And we are not the judges, but must choose wisely in the Spirit of Christ. The Lord alone is responsible for the manner in which He goes about saving every man.
4. Because we have the testimony of the Spirit, we need not chase after teachers, but can learn, study and discern through Him. But the Spirit will tell us that we must reconcile ourselves in the true Light of the Church, so that we do not go off on a tangent of our own. So we abide in what He has shown us and will show us because Jesus said: whoever is a teacher of the Law will raise up something new with something old, so that we are constantly growing in His Spirit.
Passage from The First Letter of John:
2:15. Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world. If any man love the world, the charity of the Father is not in him.
2:16. For all that is in the world is the concupiscence of the flesh and the concupiscence of the eyes and the pride of life, which is not of the Father but is of the world.
2:17. And the world passeth away and the concupiscence thereof: but he that doth the will of God abideth for ever.
2:18. Little children, it is the last hour: and as you have heard that Antichrist cometh, even now there are become many Antichrists: whereby we know that it is the last hour.
2:19. They went out from us but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would no doubt have remained with us: but that they may be manifest, that they are not all of us.
2:20. But you have the unction from the Holy One and know all things.
2:21. I have not written to you as to them that know not the truth, but as to them that know it: and that no lie is of the truth.
2:22. Who is a liar, but he who denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is Antichrist, who denieth the Father and the Son.
2:23. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father. He that confesseth the Son hath the Father also.
2:24. As for you, let that which you have heard from the beginning abide in you. If that abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning, you also shall abide in the Son and in the Father.
2:25. And this is the promise which he hath promised us, life everlasting.
2:26. These things have I written to you concerning them that seduce you.
2:27. And as for you, let the unction, which you have received from him abide in you. And you have no need that any man teach you: but as his unction teacheth you of all things and is truth and is no lie. And as it hath taught you, abide in him.
2:28. And now, little children, abide in him, that when he shall appear we may have confidence and not be confounded by him at his coming.
2:29. If you know that he is just, know ye, that every one also who doth justice is born of him.

:
Deut 13:1-4
If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Isa 8:20
To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them
:
Matt 7:15-17
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit
:
2 Cor 11:13-15
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works

Jeremiah 14:14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.
Lamentations 2:14 Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of banishment.
Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if [it were] possible, even the elect.
Luke 6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
2Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
1John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Here in 1John we are told to "try the spirits" in other words... compare what they say to the word of God. A true prophet of God would not give a teaching or prophesy that would be contrary or go against the gospel.
God bless you hope this was a help.

Jesus says that you know a prophet by his fruits. A good tree produces good fruit and a bad tree produces bad fruit. Matthew 7:15, 16.
