yes, but the colour code was developed for industury when all the services went through steel pipes mounted externally on the walls.

The general rule for main domestic services are developed from the symbols painted onto those heavy factory pipes:
Light Blue = Cold Water.
Red = Heating Water.
Black = Electricity (single phase), Dark Blue for Three Phase Electrical suppy.
Yellow = Gas.
Silver = Steam.
Green = Compressed Air
Orange = Pnuematic Oil.

Today they use plastic wraps in the soil to identify pipes comming into the house, thus water has Light Blue, Gas has Yellow, and Electricity a Black and White wrapp. Telephone lines, use Orange and black wraps.

In the USA, gas lines should be colored black. Water lines can be gray metal or white plastic and copper lines may be used for water only. Electrical conduit can be blue plastic or silver metal.
Drainage and sewer lines can be any color, most commonly white or black.
House wiring is color-coded. The black wire is the "hot" or current wire. The white wire is the ground or "earth" wire. A second ground wire is usually present also, and is usually a copper or aluminum wire with no insulation on it.
The valves on water lines indicate hot or cold water. Blue valves are cold water valves, red for hot water. These are not always accurate in older homes as plumbers often use blue valves on hot water lines and vice versa.

If your in the UK BS1710 will give you all the information you could ever want on the subject and more.

For the domestic dwelling, most pipes will just be insulated bare copper......unless your house builder spent the extra cash for the yellow plastic sleeve on your gas pipes.

The general rule for main domestic services is:
Blue = Water.
Black = Electricity.
Yellow = Gas.
This refers to the mains that enter your house from the road.
I hope that this is what you require.
