Simply because they can I think. I have a 1/2 golden 1/2 brit She actually will take mouth fulls of food and then bring them into the room we are in and eat. then go back for more and come back and eat. They want companionship so much that they want to eat in the same room. Mine will bring her bowl to us when she is hungry and it is empty. I would either get a heavy heavy bowl or a self feeder like you can dump a 20 pound bag in. I also only feed about half a bowl at a time. Less mess. but if you get the big feeder then they will learn not to tip it over, because they cant get to their food then.

Your question was why, and why is easy. Lab breeds are unique in the fact that they are far smarter than the average breed. They flip over thier bowls for many reasons. 1 they are done with what is in it, and are looking for what might be under it. 2. they are showing you that they are done. 3. They are playfull breeds and prone to making up games to entertain themselves. 4. they love the attention that they get when you look at the bowl and then to them and ask why.
This will be a hard habbit to break even if you got heavier bowls, or ones in a raised support, they will still find a way to knock them over. So try making it a funner game for them. Hide a dog treat under the bowl, for them to find after they eat. This makes the game funner for the both of you. And they will see it as though you like playing too.

Those aren't the only breeds that do this! My Great Pyr does this with every meal then lays down and eats it off the floor. No matter the bowl or how heavy she dumps it first then eats it. If I just put the food on the floor she doesn't eat it ..SHE has to dump it...it's funny and that's just her and just learn to accept some behavior. At least she eats it all and doesn't leave a mess of food everywhere!
My vet also told me that large breed dogs find it easier to digest their food if they lay down and eat it off a flat surface....so there ya go...hope that helps!

You could get food stands, heavy bowls or bowls that suction to the floor. My Golden likes to push things with her nose. She will open and close doors if they are not the way she wants them, arrange her bedding, and she will push a bowl if it is empty and in the way. She likes things in order. lol.

Maybe they are looking for what else might be under the dry food?
