Cara Pietra. The best thing will be to practice English by living in an English speaking country. There are many places where you could go and spend some time practing the language.

One of the things you can do is serve as a volunteer in a non profit organization that sends you to an English speaking country for up to 2 years. You will have no option but to speak the language while serving a volunteer mission, and you will become fluent in English.

Hi pietrazzurra88

How much do you already know?
I am hoping you can read my reply...
there are many courses available here in London for teaching English as a foreign language either full time or part time, you may also do distance learning on the internet but of course the best way is to come here, then you will have no choice but to learn & to make yourself understood
If you are still a student there are foreign exchange schemes in place, where you swap places with a student from here, that wants to study in Italy
ciao

A lot of English people actually speak (from a grammatical point of view) very poor English. I would say you should come to Britain for 2 or 3 months and then you will be able to speak great English. You could learn a lot about our culture too, there are lots of great things to see and do. There are a lot of opportunities here for a young clever person to do well with and I am sure you will have a lot of fun if you choose to come over for a while.

In school I studied classic grammar English, I live in Bradford now 1year 4 months, West Yorkshire I can understand 50% of what people telling me(at work) I can understand everything when I am in bank, Revenue ,etc. For to get understanding sometime I ask people to write down what they want to say because I can not catch their pronunciation still. I believe the best way to find out modern English by chats or forums. A lot of new words, meanings. i am a Russian

Which English people are you referring to? Some English people speak English very badly i.e. ungrammatically and with poor vocabulary. [You may just have noticed a few things about this in the media recently.]

If you are going to learn English from English people, make sure that you have a good role model!!!
The World Service could be helpful, as could serious British TV programmes.
Note that American English is not the same as English English!

Probably you can with a little of immersion study. There is no "proper" English language. There are dozens of dialects and regional speech. In Britain alone there are dialects and speech differences which makes it difficult for people from the south to understand people from the north. In addition English is highly fluid language which constantly evolves, that is why it is a universal language of science and business. The whole central language is constructed from French, Spanish, Latin, German, and Dutch; with a smattering of Gaelic (even African, "Boss" is Swahili).

Live for for at least months in England or America! I have lived with alot of foreign students with basic English knowledge and within 2 months they speak very well of living and working in the United Kingdom, and within a year they speak English fluently.

The best way is to practise by talking to English people (or Americans if you're desperate :p- only kidding) normal conversation will build up your confidence, as well as learning all the slang and etiquette present in the language.

You can partially learn a language by studying the grammar of the language and learning vocab, but the only way to become truely fluent and be able to use the language like a native-speaker is to spent a lot of time (i.e. several years) in the country.
