I've seen it work over the short-term, but I'm somewhat leary of hypnosis. I asked my psychiatrist about getting hypnosis for loosing weight and she told me that sometimes you just trade one bad habit for another. So, I decided against it for me.

It does for some. It depends on how susceptible you are to the power of suggestion. Some people use it for smoking cessation, anxiety reduction, etc as well.
Hypnosis may be a good addition for some, along with eating well, keeping their calorie intake under control, and regular exercise.
