before you do something like this you need to have a stiptic pencil on hand that will stop the bleeding. You can find this in the same area you purchase men's shaving equipment, it's small, white, and works well.

Flour and baby powder are cheaper ways to get it to stop. Just dip the toenail in the powder, enough to cover it and it should stop. There is a product you can buy at most pet stores that groomers keep on hand to stop bleeding, its called Kwik Stop. Its like $5-7 for a jar and it works just as well.

I feel very sorry for your dog and my heart goes out to you. Please, don't ever take your dog to that lady again. She obviously doesn't know what she is doing. Call your local pet stores. Most of them carry supplies like Styptic Powder or Pens that stop the bleeding. I would take the dog to the vet if you can't stop the bleeding or if your dog becomes sick in the next week or so as this would indicate infection. To the person who answered "shoot it", you're a moron! Good luck with your dog.

The bleeding can usually be stopped easily with KwikStop blood stopping powder, or by applying flour or cornstarch. This helps clot up the blood and stop the bleeding.

If your dogs toenail bleeds when you cut it, just put it in flower (The powder, not the plant) this clogs the bleeding.

They sell this at any pet store. It's called "Syptic Powder". If the nail bleeds, take it's paw and dip the bleeding nail in it. It should stop in seconds. It lasts a long time and it does work.

Before you start cutting your pups toenails, have a little bowl of flour. If you knick the quick, dip your pups foot in the bowl and wait 10 seconds.

If you don't have a stypic pencil, you can use flour or corn syrup. If the dog tends to manage to take the flour or cornsyrup off, you can wrap the paw in gauze for a short time.

You can get styptic powder from any pet catalog or pet store that pretty instantly stops bleeding (I use it on other nics and cuts also). Or you can try corn starch.

I know of someone who brought their dog in for it, and the vet charged 75 dollars, just to dip it in flour!
So flour works.....and sometimes vets wont even tell you this over the phone...why, no clue!
Money hungry, I guess
