in Maui the Ritz at Kapalua. Hands down the best!!
They have like 3 tierd pools. A beach 'club', tennis courts, basketball, THE BEST VIEWS, and its right off the golf course. It's also really close to all the shopping and restuarants in Lahaina. (about 5-10 minute drive)
They greet you with leis and cool towels and water when you arrive. It was great. And they knew our name when we walked in. (Which was weird but cool) :)
The pool has a bar and there are like 3 or 4 resturants at the hotel. One is outside with a beach view. They also have another bar or two. It was great.
No matter where you stay, have fun. It's beautiful there.

If your going to the Island of Kauai, try Kauai Vacation rentals in Li hue. They have pretty good deals and the rentals are private and on the beach. Kauai is called the garden island. Very plush jungles, beautiful beaches. Very little night life, quiet island. I lived there for over a year. It rains allot, but is usually tropical warm rain, doesn't ruin your day at the beach. There are plenty of hotels there also; 5 star to 2 star. Also, bed and breakfast establishments.

The best and the cheapest place in Hawaii would be to rent from a bed and breakfast owner.
Most of them are hospitable and the views are great! If you stayed at a hotel, it would be much more expensive.
Go to craigslist under Hawaii------> http://honolulu.craigslist.org/search/vac?query=bed%20and%20breakfast

*contact the bed and breakfast owners and tell them the dates you are planning on staying. Ask for a quote.
Go with your gut feeling. If you feel uneasy about a place, search for another place.

ive stayed on oahu whenever me and my family went over there this past summer and we stayed right across the street from Waikiki and the name of our hotel was the Pacific Beach Hotel. I loved it and we were within walking distance of alot of good shopping & the international market place. Also the hotel staff were very helpful when it came to planning what all we were going to do while we were there, such as the dole plantation tour and luaus and such. it was a great place to stay i think!
