and last night we were watching a DVD and when it had finished the TV automatically turned to a channel which was showing a period police drama. A program I hate and cannot watch. My other very politely said that she would like to watch it. I said no that I do not like that program....she asked again, this time I just said "NO" and she stormed out ..screaming about my behavior.... who was right ???

She was. Sorry, but she was a guest in your house and it is only good manners for the host/hostess to defer to the wishes of the other party/guest. You did not have to watch it and could have said, "Okay, well then you won't mind if I don't watch it with you. Enjoy." It does you no good to be a woman of absolutes...learn to give a little, it doesn't hurt and it does help. Afterall, she's part of your life whether you like it or her or not. Don't be known as the daughter in law from hell. You are family now. Good luck.

Well it was rude and selfish not letting her watch it becoz shes ur MIL and guest, then again i know they can b annoying at times but u got to think of it like this: she is ur partners MOTHER, she / maybe is old enough to b ur mum , im sure u wodnt do that 2 ur mum.

anyway its up 2 u jus remember shes gonna b stayin lots more in future

Oh s**t! The mother inlaw of course they allways are.Ps move house and don`t give her the address. Or next time put the tv in the shed tell her its in for repair and do a lot of "gardenning".

you know...if the MIL was only staying for the night then you should have just let her watch what ever she wanted to....make your guests welcome....and yep i would have been annoyed by your behaviour too....next time be the host with the most and don't make people feel uncomfortable next time because when you go to visit them, they could turn the tables on you...have a heart

Where are your manners? Mother-in-law or not. She's the guest! Grow up and be an adult about it. I do agree that she shouldn't have stormed out, but you sort of initiated the quarrel. Gheez!

Sorry, but why were you watching the idiot box in the first place? It's awfully bad form to watch that thing when you have guests. Weren't you brung up proper?

She was right, it may be your home, but she is a guest in your home. You have to be more hospitable, when it comes to your guests, in laws or otherwise.
