Cornish Pasties

Ingredients:
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 1/4 cups ice water
1 teaspoon salt
5 1/2 cups potatoes, peeled, sliced thin
2 medium carrots, shredded
1 small onion, diced
1/2 cup rutabaga, diced
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1/2 pound lean ground pork
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 cup beef broth
Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Using pastry blender, cut shortening into flour. Make a well in the center of mixture, and quickly stir in ice cold water. Form dough into a ball. Set aside.
In large bowl combine the uncooked vegetables, uncooked meats, salt, pepper, and beef broth, mixing well.
Roll out pastry dough into 6 x 8-inch rectangles. Place about 1 1/2 cups of filling in the center of each rectangle. Bring the 6-inch sides together and seal. Cut a slit in the top of each pasty.
Place on baking sheets. Bake at 425*F (220*C) for 45 minutes.

If your minced Beef is ground beef, then here is what I would make:
Ground Beef
3Potatoes peeled and quartered
1Swede peeled and cut the same size as potatoe
1 med onion
2 cloves garlic
3 tomatos sliced.
1egg

Take the onion and cut into quarters . put into processor with 2garlic cloves. Process until fine.

Combine beef and onion and garlic . Add salt , pepper ,.egg, a palmfull of breadcrumbs form into loaf. Bake at 350 for 45 min to 1hour

In a deep sauce pot boil the potatoes and swede. When fork tender, drain, and put back into pot. Add, butter, milk salt pepper, chive if on hand. and mash. keep warm

Peel and cut carrots on an angle put in boiling water for 10 min. take out and cover with herbed butter.

Serve the sliced tomatoes with a simple but good covering of olive oil salt and pepper and balsamic vinegar .

Assuning you have a beef Oxo cube, brown the meat and soften the onions in a little oil, stir in a tablespoon of flour, plus some dried thyme if you have it, then gradually add 1/2 pint or so of stock made with the Oxo to stop the flour going lumpy. Bring to the boil and simmer for at least 45 mins until the gravy is nice and thick. Meanwhile take the largest of the potatoes, prick them, and put them on a salted baking tray in an oven at gas mark 5 or 180C for an hour or so until the skins are really firm and crisp (if you have a microwave, nuke them at full powr for 10 mins first to make sure they are cooked all the way through).

Remove the potatoes, cut them in half, scoop the insides into a bowl and mash with butter/margarine and the crushed garlic. Fill the skins with the meat mixture and top with garlicky mash before returning to the oven for 15-20 mins until the mash is turning golden in places. Serve with the carrot and swede mashed with a little butter and black pepper.

Sheppard's pie, you brown the beef, mash the potatoes. Put the beef in the bottom of a pie pan, then the veggies, then cover with the mashed potatoes. If you have cheese, cover it with cheese and bake. If you don't have the cheese, then you can eat it right away as long as all the ingredients are hot. this is a nice hearty meal in the winter times. Or you can make it into a meatloaf. The onions and garlic should add some very nice flavor to whatever you make.

I suggest a different recipe for your mince beef. Fry the onion & the garlic in a little of olive oil. Add the tomato. Cook in boiling salted water the swede and the carrot. When the veg. are ready, smash them and add it to the beef. This one will be a different bolognese, a tomato sauce for the pasta. Buon appetito!

In the event that it's a fruit it includes seeds, otherwise it's a vegetable. And vegetables are usually grown in the ground while fruits are grown in trees.
