Go in physical able to do pull ups (not just 3) be able to do the 3 mile run in at least 25 minutes, also try to be able to run for at least 5 miles, and do 80 crunches in a minute. Listen to what the drill instructors tell you. Remember you will never be fast enough, don't take it to heart they say. Just sound off (yell) I sir, yes sir, no sir whenever asked to do something or asked a question. and do it as fast as possible. Make sure you have your family or friends write you letters. You will look forward to mail call more than you can realize. Go to church even if you are not religious right now you will be in boot camp, because that is the only time you can be a little relaxed and while in church the drill instructors can not yell at you. Boot camp is physically and mentally challenging but it is not so hard that you can not pass it. You will leave boot camp with so many funny memories (they may not be funny at the time though) and many new brothers or sisters. I also posted a site go to it. There are alot of prior Marines and you can ask them questions or read what they have said about boot camp or anything else you may have a question about. Good luck and Semper FI!

If there is one thing you should know, it is this. No matter how hard you try, you will never doing anything right or fast enough, even if you actually do. DI's will yell all the time, and you will not know why.
Keep you head down, try to remain as anonymous as possible. And, do not try to become the guide!! I was the guide for my platoon, and your head is always on the chopping block. If someone messed up, that person, their squad leader, and the guide all got punished.
Take it one day at a time, do what you are told, and don't take it personally. They are going to put you down, call you out, and basically humiliate you.
And, you will be surprised how the are calling you worthless and good for nothing right before graduation, and shaking your hand and congratulating you after. It is all a game.
Everyone talks about fitness. I would say it is 35% fitness. If you aren't at the level you need to be, they will get you there. The other 65% is mental. If you can't handle what I stated above, it doesn't matter how good of shape you are in.

I just plain busted my *** and never ever talked back. I don't care how right I was and how wrong the DI was I NEVER talked back. Remember, they really are trying to get you to quit or to disqualify you. Because if you can't take the pressure of boot camp, how will you react to a combat situation. It's been 40 (omg) years since I went to Parris Island and I can still see in my minds eye every single DI I had as if it were yesterday. I can still remember how it felt when they were in your face. Start working out intensely right now. I don't care how physically fit you think you are, its nothing compared to what you'll be when you finish boot camp. Even as a girl I put on 10 lbs of muscle and still lost 3 sizes in just 8 weeks. Push ups, sit ups, pull ups and running...and more running. When you wonder why your DI thinks you can keep up the pace they set for you remember this. That DI got up early enough to look perfect in his uniform before waking you up. When he is running you into the dirt he'll be yelling at you at the same time and never sound out of breath. He'll be up doing reports long after you've gone to bed. But, when you finish boot camp, you will know that you can push yourself beyond whatever limits you thought you had and actually come out the better for it.

Do what you are told, the way you are told to do it, and resign the fact that you know nothing. Listen, Learn, and don't give up. They will tell you everything you need to know if you just listen. Oh, and never EVER do anything you were not told to do. Boot camp is not a place to be a hero and try to think out of the box. There will be time for that after you graduate. Don't even sit down unless you were told you may do so and you may actually enjoy your time there.

My biggest tip for boot camp (and it goes along with everything else in life) is act like you know what you're doing "fake it til you make it". It may not seem like much now, but it will. Trust me. And if you're afraid that you can't make it... there have been girls shorter than me (4'11) graduate boot camp. There's no reason you can't. Also, especially at the very beginning... if you're done with what they tell you to do, HELP the recruit next to you!
One of my drill instructors said that boot camp is TEAMWORK and WATER.

Keep your mouth shut. Do what they tell you when they tell you as fast as you possibly can. Listen to what they tell you, it may not make sense at the time but what the DI's tell you usually has a reason behind it. Try to remain anonymous, if they know who you are you're in trouble. Don't volunteer for anything like scribe etc. If you can weather the first two weeks(which were the worst in my opinion) you'll be fine. And never ever ever quit. They may ride you and you're still going to take **** but if you are at least trying and don't quit it will be less painful.

Millions have gone before you and millions will go after you. If the marines are your choice then you know enough that physical fitness is key. It's a physical game and its a big mind game. Just be prepared to succeed at both. The human spirit is amazing when you put your mind to something.
