Look up the breed and read about them. Look for a breeder and go see the dogs and interact with them. Buying a dog blindly is never a good idea. Never buy just for looks.

Much the same as any dog.Because there from South America they are Adapted to a warmer Climate, and so they feel the Cold more so than most other Dogs, you have to Protect them from the Cold. Because of there small size they have to be protected from other Dogs Attacking them obviously. A Dog is not a Toy they need care and Attention unless youre not prepared to do this dont get one. They can Interfere with youre Social Life you cant leave them alone for to long. When you go on Holidays you have to find someone to look after youre Doggy, Whether it be Kennels or a friend, they need Vaccinations Annually, and Medical Care. A Dogs Life can be as long as 16 years sometimes even 19 years so think about it long and hard before you make a Commitment.

I have a chihuahua and I find them easy to care for. I have to give him a bath once or twice a month, and after his bath I brush him. They do not need much exercise and can usually get enough in the house. You can train them to use a litter box or puppy pads very easily, and they will also learn to go outside easily as well. They do not eat a lot so food is not super expensive, even for the best. The only problem I have with mine is stepping on him. They tend to bond more with one person, and they will follow this person around and you can step on them if you are not watching. That does not mean they will not like other people. Mine thinks everyone(young and old) should love him, but he prefers to be near me. The first one I had bonded with my 3 year old son, and went everywher he was. So I do not believe they are bad with children, but they need to be around children and other animals when they are puppies so they will get used to them. They are great dogs and very easy to care for.

I dont find them to be harder to look after than any other dog. Actually they are extremely smart and housetrain very easily . They eat very little so you can afford to buy them the better dog food . they are clingy little creatures and they tend to bond more with one person in the family . They need very little exercise . You average size apt and running around in it is usually all they need they hate the cold and tend to get chilled easily ,keep a sweater on hand in the colder months . They are also prone to heat stroke as well so be sure to provide plenty of water . I own one and it is the light of my life . good luck and god bless and I hope that I helped.
