It depends on what part of the country you are living in. You can check this information out for free at www.salary.com. Simply enter the position you are curious about and the zip code where you plan to work and you will receive a fair estimate. For a psychiatrist in the United States:

10th percentile: $130,819
25th percentile: $148,634
75th percentile: $189,421
90th percentile: $208,740

Hope this helps. I believe the information to be accurate. I am a loan officer for a large mortgage company and we use these estimates to approve/decline applicants based on their job titles.

a psychiatrist is a doctor first.... then they specialise in psychiatry... so they study six years as a doctor then do two more years specialising in psychiatry... eight years of learning... at tens of thousands of dollars every year..

the fee to see a paychiatrist here in Aus.. is somewere between $130 to $180 per hour, though if they accept bulk billed clients then medicare only pays them something like $90 per hour...

however if you remember that they have expenses in setting up and maintaining their surgery including rent, furninshings, phone, electricity, paying a secretary, membership fees to psychiatry associations and medical associations, stationery, subscriptions to psychiatry journals, various text books, and other expenses I cant even think of right now you will see that in reality their take home pay would be more like half of that....

Hope this helps..

$160/hr and rising!
I'm in the wrong business, obviously.
Just wondering how much money it costs to be a psychiatrist? Must be pretty high too!
