I'm really worried about how this is going to affect his life as he really wants the cat to love him. He's tried allt eh usual techniques such as giving her King Prawns etc, but this hasn't worked. A friend suggested that we take our cat to an animal hypnotist to make her see sense. What do you think?

Cat's are for the most part low maintenance. I have a cat that will be 16 yrs old in April. My cat is neutered & de-clawed and I understand those who feel de-clawing a cat is cruel. You'll never get past litter from being tracked through your home for the most part. Scoop the litter box daily and you may try changing the litter box weekly. If you feel you can still smell the odor of the litter box, you may need to change it twice a week to satisfy you. You could give him scratching post, etc so he doesn't scratch on other things. You can place aluminum pans (cheap) in areas that he tries to jump up to, it's a noise that most cats don't like when they hit it. Spray bottle also works to correct behavior you don't want. Brushing the cat will help keep the shedding & dander down. Bathe the cat twice a year (Spring & Fall) when weather is warm enough & before it gets too cold. I don't use clumping litter just clay litter & I have to trim the hair in his paws every so often.

I would not worry to much about it, I bought a cat despite my fiance saying he didnt want one and the cat is absolutely bessoted with him (and he is the same with her now) But I rarely get a look in unless he is out of the house.

I would suggest that firstly your boyfriend leaves her alone. I am always picking the cat up and playing with her and she gets bored of you then. My fiance pretty much ignores her most of the time and the cat then follows him around looking for attention from him.

Also as has already been mentioned get your boyfriend to feed her and give her treats.

I wouldnt recomend a hypnotist firstly because there is no evidence animals can be hypnotised and it could be a waste of money, also its not very fair to make someone / something love someone, if your cat doesnt feel it then thats up to her.

I would also say that your boyfriend is taking things abit to seriously. its a cat and really shouldnt affect his life to that degree.

Hope things work out!

I really lean towards the change in Cologne answer....
Cats get tuned into a person's smell...and if he changed Cologne or Laundry detergent, that can make a friendly cat run and hide...
(IF that's what is occurring)

Most cats INITIALLY don't like strangers, and dislike even more strangers that WANT to pet them....If he's new to the scene, your boyfriend will have to be patient and let the cat approach him, sniff him and THEN he can start petting.....

And unfortunately, if your Boyfriend did whack the cat somehow, that cat will not trust him WHILE you're out of the room....
It's not hard to think like a cat does if you have them....

Cats are fickle creatures. My mum has 5 cats and they're all different and all act differently at different times. He'll have to try to not take it too personally and maybe the cat will come around eventually. If he keeps pestering it then he'll make it worse. Leave it alone for a while and it might change its mind.

He might have done something to offend Kitty. They're like elephants - they NEVER forget.

Or perhaps she's jealous of him?

Most cats don't like lots of attention. Maybe that's the problem? Maybe BF is trying too hard? He should try ignoring her and see if the problem resolves.

Otherwise, get rid of the BF. lol :-)

Cats are very contrary creatures - your boyfriend should change tactics, and completely ignore her. Eventually, she will come to him. Even then, he shouldn't make a fuss of her, but just let her sit on his lap or beside him on the couch, as she chooses. Maybe one day he could stroke her a little, but take it all slow and easy. Good luck!

Simple, you stop feeding your cat and get you're boyfriend to her instead. Things will soon change round as long as you are giving her the other attention she craves.

You are forgetting the golden rule that says, " People adopt dogs and Cats adopt people". Maybe your cat senses something you don't. Maybe he has mistreated the feline, because they do not forget or forgive believe me.

Maybe your boyfriend smells funny to the cat. (I am not trying to be mean). My cat hates when I wear perfume of scented lotion and tries to get away when I pet her.
