I have this problem, try putting a wax or putty product in it to start (after towel drying it). Get it into approximately the style you want, then blowdry it while running your fingers through it, making sure you are manipulating the hair into the style you want, maybe a messed up/just got outta bed look. After a couple of minutes, turn the blow dryer off and the wax should no longer be weighing down your hair. Put a further (but very small) amount of wax/putty in your hair and style it. This works as the friction caused by the initial wax makes the hair stick where you want it, while also not being too heavy.

Get a short, choppy cut. Gel it and go.
