Is it true that you have to be active dty for 20 years before the military will reconstruct a marines shoulder? He was wounded in Iraq.

My son is still active duty, he has had two surgeries and he is having another on this month. He was told he does not qualify for the reconstructive surgery because he has not served long enough and that he may not be able to relist. Whre can I get help?

He has served 8 years in the marines and wants to stay in.

not true. The system is slow, but even if he was discharged, his discharge physical would still show the need and it would be followed up with at the VA. Most likely any injuries incurred on active duty will be fixed on active duty when possible.

I know of someone that had their knee replaced b/c of an injury he got while active duty army. That was after 6 years. He couldn't reenlist but he got the surgery, all aftercare and a settlement when he was discharged. Your son needs to talk to someone with tricare and see what he needs to do to get his shoulder taken care of.

if he has tri-care. there should be an option for some aid, but i believe veteran's aid is constantly getting better. i assume he was discharged after his injury. your best bet is to contact the local VA Office.

No that doesnt sound right. My BIL had his knee replaced after just a few years in the reserves.
