For me the question is not one of "Does God exist", but actually "What is the nature of God?"
I find questions on religion, belief, and God rather frustrating. No-one actually knows!!!! People, quite rightly express their views, but that's all it is - a viewpoint. For me religion is simply a "collective" of people with a similiar viewpoint. The world is full of "collective's" and they can help people tremendously, but sadly so much control, pain and death has been caused by these collective's fighting each other. Just look at Bush, Blair and the Middle East, but don't get me started!!!!
I look around me and see a world that is amazing!! Life is amazing and incredibly wierd at the same time. Here we all are, stuck on a lump of rock in a universe so large we cannot even begin to comprehend it. It's a shame mankind spends its time "naval gazing" and fighting for collective control of the earth and creating systems that can never help mankind evolve!!
My point to these ramblings are that to answer the question we need to stop quessing, stop fighting, stop being so black and white on these issues and evolve. Whatever "God" is, we and the earth are not the only things that were created.........don't you think the answers are sitting out there in the universe, maybe....just maybe that is why it exists??!!
I personally believe that the universe was created, its the nature and purpose of the creator that baffles me!!! I do not except the all encompassing viewpoints of the collectives currently on this planet, (and call me a cynic if you like) but sadly they only serve to control and stifle mankind and hold back our evolution. Humanities arogance always astounds me...please look up at the night sky and realise how small and insignificant we all really are....we really know nothing in the scheme of things.
The words of the late and great Bill Hicks some up my viewpoint nicely............"Believe in your quaint superstitions and traditions, I, on the other hand am an evolved being that deals purely with source of light that shines in all of our hearts. That "middle man thing"; its wacky and I appreciate it....gotta run, there is a voice a callin me!"
Peace and Love to you all!

There need't be a divide between creator and created.
I believe that the universe itself is alive and imbued with a kind of spirit. At least I do not think it was conceived by outside forces. Such outside forces would neccessarily be immutable and omnipotent, outside the realm of understanding. For me anyway it makes just as much sense to say that it is actually the universe that is eternal and immutable (surely it goes through many changes perhaps it even contracts to the size of a single atom every now and then only to shoot forth again in another big bang In Hinduism I believe they call the interval between the two a kalpa) , that is omnipresent, (naturally as present to itself) that it is omniscent (in so far as it is aware of itself, we and all sentient creatures are part of that awareness).
Please note that this is simply what I BELIEVE. I do not proport it to be true by any means. It is simply what I have come to understand through experience that I believe to be spiritual in nature and what others might call a flawed understanding of Taoism and Animism.
I hope I didn't come off as crazy, again this is simply what makes sense for me. I guess its kind of a romantic vision; I've seen shows about the cosmos on the discovery channel. When they pull back far enough the chains of galaxies strung together remind me of a kind of nervous system.

Is there a God?
I don't know. You tell me.
Whether there is a good or not, it's totally up to you to decide. Think of a time when you found yourself in a really bad situation, had no option available and you needed help desperately. At that time, you might have thought about God. Might have said; "hey god, please help me to get out of this situation, this problem". If you felt that someone's help was there for you, then you may believe in God; you may think there is a God. But if you couldn't find a solution for it and didn't feel released from it (not even relaxed a bit), then you may not think there is a God.
If you believe then there is. If you don't, then there isn't.
But try to look or at least think about a God you believe in. If you find yourself relaxed and environment near you peaceful, then you might have you answer.

It's a lot of smoke and mirrors. The Church has sold us a story. The God we Christians believe in is one and the same God for all religions. In my very 'umble opinion. The Christian practices at religious ceremonies supports the growth of the Holy Roman Empire, which replaced the Roman Empire. The Church of Henry VIII was a neat dodge to suit his requirements at the time and has caused more death and destruction than most other things. The destruction of the monastry system was an act of Art Murder by Henry and later by Oliver Cromewell.

Well, God is within and without your physical & metaphysical being. He is alpha and omega. He is singular and also plural.
Each religion, faith practice will look at a few aspects and try to use that knowledge or truth/axioms to build a structure of concepts to explain to followers, inevitably accompanied by rules and dogma which are essentially of earthly rather than divine origins.

Is there a God? The only real answer is Maybe. I like to think there is a God, but I'll wait till I die to find out the ultimate truth. Until then I just do what is right, not with the hopes of moving forward, but because doing wrong not only hurts myself, it hurts other as well.

If you are monotheist, then there is but one God. If you are polytheist, you can have many Gods. If you are atheist, you don't have any God at all.
You must search for answer to your question within yourself, and by examining all evidence that support and denies the existance of God (s).
I searched and I found the answer to this same question that you present, and I also believe everyone has the right to believe or not believe in God (s).

I would imagine a Inuit tribe to say the same about explorers from planes who then took thier naive women and started a new population of kids not from thier tribes
but this line of reasoning smacks of Scientology or other similar alien impregnation religions, even bible old testament claims of women gettting raped by angels...etc

i didnt read all your question (yawn) but can honestly say that you WONT get a difinative answer from people on this site.
You will get atheists telling you there's not one, & believers assuring you there is one without doubt, & people like myself telling you that there's no actually way of finding out for sure so make up your own mind..... You're an adult arent ya?

As for the question 'to what end' (are they trying to convince us of one God'...I've always believed it was a medieval means of controlling and intimidating the populace - and, by preaching of ONE deity, a paralell was drawn between that God and the King/Queen. Just my opinion.
