I am hoping to start a new service in my area.
I want to let peoples dogs who are left home alone out for a pee and a poo.
I have an enhanced police check and references.
I just cannot come up with the right words to describe the service I want to offer without it sounding strange.
I have done my research and there is no one else in the area who offers this service.
I would also feedcats if the owners were away.
I already have several people who want to take advantage of it.
I need to get the Ad in by Wednesday so it is in the local paper next weekend.
I would clear up after the dog, feed it and refresh its water if required..
Any suggestions for wording of the Ad and Name of my new business would be really gratefully received also what insurance would I need to take out?
Thanks you for your help.

Hi, what about 'Pet Comfort' ... don't they call it a comfort break or stop (you know when you're on a long journey & you stop to use the loo) - or possibly 'All Pet Comforts' (because if you're in yellow pages there may be others within your region - if not your specific area - offering a similar service & if your business name starts with an A it'll put you at the top of the list).

'Pet Comforters' or 'Your Pet Comforters' (then you'd possibly be the very last in a list which might be good too ... apart from that though it does sound a little more personal)

And as for advertising - what about something along the lines of...

Worried about your pet home alone all day? Worried about what state the house will be in when you return? Call me ---- at Pet Comforters & I'll drop around to ensure your that your pet has a comfort stop & that your house gets a break.

or

Want to go on holiday or for a short break but shocked at the cost of boarding your pet?
Call Your Pet Comforters & we'll come around to your home to care for your cat, canary or cactus so that you can enjoy your holiday with no worries. Ring ----- at Your Pet Comforters for more information.

Then in smaller letters - Anyone entering your home has had an enhanced police check, has full references & ??? insurance. Phone now for a friendly chat about your requirements.

I'm not sure if you cater for feeding birds or watering plants too? Perhaps they're not quite as cuddly as a cat or dog ... imagine cuddling a cactus .. or perhaps not.

Good luck with your new business.

I did something similar myself a few years ago, although it was on a very small scale just in my local area, but it was quite a success, because there really isnt much competition so I would say go for it!

My ad if I remember correctly went something like this :-

Pet sitting service.

Are you going away and worried about leaving you pets home alone? Not wanting to distress them by putting them in an animal shelter? Then I may be able to help.

I can come to your house and care for your animal to the high standards you would expect. I am able to walk, groom, feed, water and generally pay them the attention they deserve!

Enjoy yoru holiday with the peace of mind that your pet is being well looked after and happy in their usual environment.

Prices vary depending on circumstances and needs so please call to have a friendly discussion.

I have an enhanced police check and references for you to view for your extra peice of mind.

I look forward to hearing from you..

Hope that helps at least give you some Ideas..good luck

Pet sitters is what we call people who do this in our area, as for a name, something like
Buddy's Buddy
Your Next Best Friend
As for insurance, that could eat up everything you make, but if you could be "Bonded" (and I don't really know what that entails, ask in the business catagory)it would be a plus for your advertising. You will have access to people's homes when they aren't there. They have to trust you with their keys and possessions. You put yourself in a position of liability, so liability insurance of some sort would be in order. You should also have some sort of contract in mind to name exactly what you will do for what fee.
Please go to the business page and I think they have some folks there who can help you with those details.
You probably should have leashes, collars, and harnesses of your own in cases their stuff is not up to par, make sure you have the authority to take the animal to their vet(and know who that is) without being responsible for paying the vet, if in your judgement, the animal has become ill or injured in their absence.

Pet Sitting like Babysitting. I did a Directory Search at Yahoo and got lots of hits. There were pet sitting websites and websites by people trying to sell books on the subject.

I have no idea about insurance, but any name would work: Pet Companion, Pet Sitting, Pet Care While You're Away

Pet Sitter available. I will care for the following types of pets in your own home during your absence: _______________________

Services offered: (example: feeding & watering, outdoor pottying, litter box cleaning, brief companionship)________________

References and police (or background) check available.

Working long hours? Not a problem! I can help. Going away? No need to stress your pet out with kennelling! Let me love your pet for you while you're away.

Sorry, but I've no idea what to suggest about insurance. Perhaps check with a lawyer.

Print a card with a catchy service name (I know someone who has "Aunt Bea's Pet Sitting Services) -her name is Beatrice.
have a few bullet points including:

Basic in home care during your working hrs or vacation time.
Bonded and Insured (if applicable to you)
References available upon request
Services for Dogs, Cats, Plants, Reptiles....(whatever you will service here)
Your contact phone number and e-mail addy
The sitters I know do not have insurance but interview with their clients and are thorough about getting Vet care info in case of emergency and advanced permission acquired from the owners Vet to take for treatment in case of emergency.
I did this at one time when I pet sat regularly for a few people.
I didn't have insurance, never had anything bad happen, but covered bases in case of any accident or if their animals got sick while I was there and owners were unreachable.
Their Vets knew that I had permission to bring the pets in for treatment should it have been necessary.
On a few occasions the dogs were sick when I got to their house and I called the owners and cleaned up the mess, reported on their condition to the owner.
It's important to interview the people you will sit for before hand and feel free NOT to sit for any who don't make those kinds of provisions for their pets.
Make sure you have their permission for Vet care in writing with current Vet info.
