If one was interested in Robotics, and wanted to become an engineer of robotics or a professor, would they obtain a B.S.M.E (that is coupled with a dual program to obtain a master's at the same time) and then attempt to get in at MIT, Georgie, Carnegie Mellon, etc, or is there a different route?

I've been building small electrical mono-neural robots since I was a kid, and I believe this is what I want to do. Is there a future in this field? Academically?

Consider the University of Kentucky for your education. They are set up to produce engineers for Toyota (the Camrys are built a few miles from UK) they do a lot with robotics.

You can become a roboticist. A word, by the way, first coined by Isaac Asimov.
