What i would suggest is this and it is sentimental,
Go buy a clip photo frame/or any nice frame that takes Ur fancy.
Get a plain piece of card or paper that will fit in to the frame.
Get Pictures from family and friends, and cut round the people in the pic and stick to the card/paper like a collage, it can be as inexpensive or expensive as you would like and im sure your Grandad would love to have all memories and faces in one big picture.
Wish your Grandad A Happy Birthday with good health xx

For my grandmothers 90th birthday we threw a surprise tea party - cake and cups of tea were served while we played old music from her era like Vera Lynn etc and we had a bingo session for her and her friends where everyone had the chance to win prizes of chocolate and bottles of wine. While the party was on we used a Powerpoint presentation containing photos of her family, friends and favourite places to keep everyone amused during the times when not much else was happening. It gave everyone something to look at and talk about.
For Christmas we presented her with a Kodak Photo Book - it costs about £22 for a regular size and about £30 for a large sized album. You basically upload photos to the Kodak Easyshare Gallery (we used the images from the Powerpoint presentation that played during her party) and add any comments or captions beneath each photo. The first page you could use to write a small introduction to the book - such as "We are presenting this book to you for your 80th Birthday - it contains many memories for your 80 years of life and we wanted to share them with you... etc". You then complete the payment details and send off to Kodak and they print the book in your chosen cover material (linen, leather etc) and it is sent to you in the post ready for you to hand over on the big day itself...hopefully you have got enough time to do this! At the moment the Photo Book is on a 20% introductory discount. (By the way I don't work for or promote Kodak but I was pleased with the final product and my grandmother was in floods of tears when we gave it to her!)

A jet ski vacation! O.K. maybe not! I just love those things sooooo much. My wife got into scrap booking. Not the old glue a bunch of old pictures and news papers in a binder! This Hobie has really taken off! I am amazed at the kind of things she does now a days with our photo albums. Note: It's best to have a computer, scanner, and lots of ink surplus on hand. Go to a scrap booking store near you and just look. I think your ideas and creative juices will start to flow after that. the present will be cherished for all time and will be pasted down from generation to generation! If that's too much work, give him a digital camera and let him do it himself!

Get loads of old photo's from your family and make a collage in the shape of 80. then put it in a really nice frame. Not only is it unique, it can be passed on throught the family for many years to come.
Good luck and happy birthday to your grandad for his 80th
xx

Depends if he's an 'old' 80 or a 'young' 80. My mum was a young 80 so she had a limousine drive to London with a trip on the London Eye with most of the immediate family...a meal etc.

How about getting a CD made up of various pictures of his family and his life? Check with various relatives for different pictures, maybe of him as a child and events in his life, i.e. birthdays, wedding, family reunions, military, any activities that are important to him, and they can add any music that he enjoys. Have family and friends write a short story of what they remember best of him and put them in a nice scrapbook, maybe with a picture of the person who wrote it. He can look back and read when he want's . If vision is a problem, then tape them for him. Happy birthday, grandad

We got all my Grandad's friends and family to write about something they remember about him. It included things like the first time his son-in-law met him, times in the war with friends, and playing dominoe with his grandchildren. Photos and other memorabilia were also included and then we got it all bound nicely. He loved it! Hope your grandad has a happy day!

How about getting a photo dvd made. You let someone scan and touch up all of the old photos you want to include in the video. They can make a slideshow with music and put it on a dvd and label the actual dvd with a photo of your choice. We have made these for our family for several years now and they love them.

Something from your heart. Make her a special photo album... get as many pictures from her past from her kids, friends, and extended family as you can and organize them in a way that she would feel loved every time she opens it. You're so sweet to think of her. She will be amazed that you were thoughtful enough to do this for her.

one of our neighbours received a copy of the news paper that was printed on the day she was born,She found it fascinating and it wasn`t very expensive, and she values it more than some of the more fancier presents received.
