Hi I am considering moving to Rockville and if someone can give me a description of it. I think I was told that it was a shady area by a contact of mine but I really wasn't paying attention when he was talking. Thanks!

Hello, my hometown is right next to Rockville, and I can assure you it is nice. It is become more and more upscale especially at Montrose Crossing. Wheaton, however is another story that is ridiculously dangerous and a lack of the english language seems to persist. Rockville is good and safe.

I grew up in the town next to Rockville and it does suck there, but it's definitely not shady. Montgomery County is one of the most affluent counties in the country and Rockville is definitely middle to upper-middle class. It is very safe but not a cheap place to live. It's got very easy access into Washington DC (there are several Metro stations in Rockville, on the Red Line) although the traffic is terrible. Basically it is a nondescript, built-up, ugly suburb of Washington DC (especially the part along MD Route 355, aka Rockville Pike). But it's certainly not unsafe or shady. As someone else mentioned there IS a fairly obscure REM song called "Don't Go Back to Rockville" which IS actually written about Rockville, MD. Probably because Rockville sucks.

Heh, I just noticed someone said White Flint Mall... I grew up less than a mile from there

Definitely not shady.

Rockville is an upper-middle class suburb of Washington, DC. It's located 10 minutes north of the DC beltway, just north of the nicer suburb of Bethesda.

Traffic is a hassle, though, because you have 2 main roads running north/south: I-270 and Rockville Pike (MD rt 355). Traffic is bad on these during both rush hours.

I worked in the south part of Rockville for almost 10 years (near White Flint Mall). I would say it would be a good place to live and work. Just a lot of population density and traffic. But there's a branch of the Metro (red line) to get in and out of DC.

Cost of living is HIGH. Particularly for housing. Unless you are coming from California, or another major suburban area, be prepared for some sticker shock on housing prices.

Who was telling you it wasn't a good place, Michael Stipe? (REM song, "Don't Go Back to Rockville")

Rockville is a pretty nice place,It's really close to Washington D.C. ,about 12 miles away. Most of the people that live there are working in management and sales positions so it's a white collar town. From what I've seen it's a safe place and a good place to live.Rockville has about 57,000 people so it's a medium sized city, not too big or too small. There are nice parks there,I lived in New Carrollton,MD for 4 years when I was going to college so I'm familiar with the area, hope that helps.

Rockville is ok. It's more so-so.
It's not as bad a Montgomery County... (lord help you if you have to move there)
And it's no Potomac, MD (it made me feel very, very poor lol)

Its kind of in the middle
