Extremes in conditions can aggravate pre-existing hemorrhoids or fissures, but as for causing them, I've never heard of that one. So you may have the early stage of one, and expose the region to cold and hard conditions and you would feel the discomfort more, but the hemorrhoid would be there already.

Uh no. A hemmoroid is caused by strain...it's an enlarged blood vessel. Cold cement is an old wives tale!

OMG! Yes, it is true. My grandmother always says that.

Well, let me set this straight: I don't know for sure if it CAUSES hemorrhoids, but it definitely activates them if you have had them in the past. I can vouch for that one personally.

Just to be on the safe side, sit on wood.

Ihave heard its from straining and damp conditions i.e sitting on damp walls , mind you the nuns in my school told us we would get piles sitting on the hot radiators at school , think that was to stop us hogging all the heat from them though

No...No...No...but my grandmother always said I could get hemorrhoids but I don't think that's true either! You will get a sore rear end from sitting all day!

No, you can't get them like that, whoever told you that can't be too smart, they are caused by strain, like pushing hard cuz you can't get it out, just sitting can't cause it, unless you were sitting there pushing for some reason.
