You don't need a psychiatrist, you need a therapist. A psychiatrist prescribes meds and diagnoses specific things. It sounds like trust issues but at the end of the day talking with someone who understand where you are coming from and will walk you through learning to talk with people you trust is what I would suggest.

A therapist can help you with it but it is your choice if you will seek treatment or live in silence.

Well, if you need advice, I think it is better to ask a spouse, parent, or minister than a psychiatrist. Once you start seeing a shrink it is difficult to get out of. They almost always without exception will diagnose you with something and medicate you. It is very involved. Also, step groups are good for learning to talk or ask God to help you or whatever. I mean if you really need help and this is the last hope for you go for it. Otherwise, don't do it.

Be sure you have a reason to see the psychiatrist. People can very easily tell you to see a psychiatrist as they assume you have some problems but its you yourself who should feel there is a necessity.

If so and you find it difficult to express your feelings, why dont you write it down and let the psychiatrist take it from there.

Why take a chance? See a licensed therapist and fully explain your situation. It may or may not be problematic, and if so it may not be as serious as you think. You are not the first person that relates to people in this manner, and qualified professionals have methods to help people.

Well, it really all comes down to what you want to do. No one can really force you to do anything. I guess depending on what it is your friend thinks you should go for, affects your decision. You need to ask yourself if YOU really think it is necessary and then decide. If you think you do, well, you will just have to push aside the fact that you don't want to go. I have recently been faced with a similar dilemma. I chose to not go. Maybe I should have, but meh.

Go for it, find a Psychiatrist you really like or a Psychologist. If you do not like it you can always stop. I suggest you to go to www.therapistratings.com for info on doctors in your area.

It doesn't sound like a serious problem to me, from what little you said. On the other hand, how would it hurt to talk to a professional? Maybe waste a couple hours of your time?
