foods most likely to prevent and cure constipation little of CoarsWheat Bran &Rice Bran and lots of Fruits and Veg.Prunes.Figs.Dates.COffee.Lots of fluids ,if your constipation is chronic or ir is known to result from a medical problem consult a physician before radically changing your diet....there are foods to watch for: caffeine. although coffee can be a laxative, caffeine can also contribute to constipation in some.Onevsurvey of 15,000 men and women by University of North Carolina researchers noted that those who were often constipated drank more tea and coffee. A possible reason: the nerves of the colon may come to tolerate the constant stimulant effect of coffee and caffeine, and thus become sluggish, just as they often do when people become overdependent over-the-counter stimulant-type laxatives..another food to watch for ..milk and calcium...

If you've tried the usual, such as increasing the fiber in your diet (you must also increase fluids at the same time or the fiber will have an adverse affect), eating more fruits and vegetables (6 ounces of prune juice every day around the same time may help), including healthy oils in your diet (cutting out all fats and oils will lead to constipation), you can get an OTC stool softener to take once or twice a day.

A stool softener is not a laxative (which should be used only on rare occasion); rather it's a capsule or gel-cap that absorbs water in the large intestine, increasing the bulk of the stool. It is not addictive, and your body will not become dependent on it.

Also make sure you're taking the time to use the bathroom when you feel the urge. Repeatedly putting it off because you're busy at the moment can lead to a cycle of constipation.

Here is a site with information on constipation. I am not advocating the use of laxatives, even though the sponsor of this site is a pharmaceutical company that sells laxatives. But there is good information here. http://www.dulcolax.com/com/Main/Constipation/index.jsp

Hormonal changes during pregnancy can lead to constipation. If you are drinking enough water (half your body weight in ounces is considered optimum) and consuming plenty of fiber, then you might try a safe, natural colon cleanse that is available for pregnant women. The best thing is to prevent constipation in the first place by drinking water, exercise of some kind (a 30 minute walk is a great form of exercisie when you are pregnant) and eating plenty of fresh fruits and raw vegetables. Some of the top foods to consume to help prevent constipation are berries, pinto beans and watermelon or prunes.

Hello qello,

For chronic constipation, in a patient with "piles", you need a lifestyle change.

Your diet needs to be rich in fiber with lots of vegetables and fruits and whole grains. Make sure you drink plenty of liquids every day, preferably water. Also, helps to get your bowels moving if you are active, so you also need to increase your activity. Try to establish regular bathroom habits. Practice proper breathing, from your diaphram, (deep diaphram breathing helps to stimulate the natural movements in your bowels). Don't strain! If you need, use a bulk laxative and a stool softener, but drop the stool softener and any laxative asap since you can become dependent on them.

A few good choices for whole grains: Barley, Wheat, Whole grain rice, Whole Oats, Flax seed.... these can all be added to your diet by adding them to things you already eat. Increase your veggie intake and eat several servings of fruit daily.

I hope this helps.

Good luck,

S
