specifically, what plastics are toasters made from, and what was the first plastic toaster?

All plastics are made of some type of oil. Mostly crude oil but some are made of peanut oil. Different additives added to it determines how soft or hard it is. Some are very durable some aren't.

As to who first used plastic in toasters I have no idea. the little door knobs on stove top toasters were made of plastic; and those go way back before the electric ones came onto the market.
