this is a question I was wondering about....I was in the bakery today,and they had so much on the shelves. what if it don't sell like they want it to? do they throw it away or use it for something else? just wondering

Many of them donate the food to homeless shelters rather than toss it in the garbage.

with bread, it gets blitzed in a food processor and used as bread crumbs to coat things like chicken and fish before shallow frying. people buy it for that purpose
some bakeries just sell day old bread at a lower price simply because they don't know what else to do with it. some people don't mind bread that was baked the day before if it's at a much lower price.
same goes with cakes. they wouldn't be bad to eat, just not perfect.

I air or oven dry stale bread and save to use as stuffing. It keeps a very long time in a plastic bag.
Bread pudding is another way to use stale bread.

We used to just bin it as no-one could take the volume of waste we produced - if you have a small amount you can make breadpudding and sell that
You can destale bread putting it back in the oven and warming it right through

I think it varies from bakery to bakery but the one I use to work at gave it to a man, who worked at a duck sanctuary, to feed to the birds.

Sell them to convenience store owners for a cheaper price so that can mark up the price and make a killing selling it to you.
