A Great Dane (Deutsch Dogge) is a mastiff, consequently it has a very delicate intestinal apparatus.
Moreover your dogs are basically pets and you have to feed them properly in order to make them growing and becoming real Danes.
I suggest a base of rice every day two times a day but changing what you mix with it.
It can be meat (never raw) twice a week; fish (twice a week); eggs (once a week): vegetables twice a week.
Quantity: try first 400 grams per meal, than check how much they eat and reduce or increase the daily intake accordingly.
I suggest you to ask your vet before giving your dogs calcium (I suggest trough injections), whatever your vet will say do not forget your pet friends are in need for calcium and for sunshine, because the sun light produces vitamin D that will fix the calcium to the bones.
Anyhow never give them bones but knee bones and nevere ever sweeties.
Again, watch what your pets are actually eating and never leave the food that they do not eat in the open, either you throw it or fridge it.
Artificial food has no real value for young dogs.
Follow my instruction and your dogs will grow beautiful.
Ciao

Puppy food is the last thing you should be feeding your pups. Danes grow at a very fast rate and the extra protien in puppy food makes them grow even faster. You could cripple your dogs. If they grow too fast, it will damage their bone structure and you can literally cripple your dogs. Next time you get a dog, do some more research into the breed. Anything labeled 'not for human consumption' (as all pet food is), contains lower grade meat. For great danes a raw meat and veg diet is better. Just buy pet mince and combine it with grated vegies (carrot, potatoes, broccoli stems and other 'safe for dogs' vegies) and mix it into patties at the right size and freeze them. Then you can just take it out defrost and serve. Again i say "do not feed your great danes puppy food". You will regret it later when arthritis becomes an issue when they are only 5 years old, or they can barely stand because their bones are too fragile.

Great Danes should NEVER be given puppy chow. Puppy chow is high in protein which encourages fast growth. The growth and weight is faster than the young, maturing bones can handle. This can result in all kinds of problems, both bone and hip. This is all over the net, so please do some research.
We do not give growing Danes a protein level of over 23%. This is either by a large breed puppy chow or adult dog food. They are the same.

I know a Dane breeder personally, and she always tells her clients that she feeds puppy food (high quality) with cooked chicken until they are 12 weeks old, then switches them to adult food. This is to help slow down their growth, so their bones have time to really develop properly.

What is a good food? You can check the net and type in either BARF diet (Bones And Raw Food) or feeding raw. I feed Royal Canin for my Giant Schnauzers....its a good quality food that has many different formulas for different breeds. My opinion is....if you can buy it at the grocery or at WalMart, it isn't good food.

Why don't you ask a Great Dane rescue group or a registered Great Dane Breeder?
