Cant imagine that having one eye and bad teeth, and be drunk all the time with no respect for feelings of others would be attractive, Bsides just imagine having no dental hygiene no medicines nothing but murder and mayhem not bad for a movie but no life for a human being of today just a dream. As a boy all i could think of was being a soldier i thought it would be so cool to be a Warrior,
until one terrible day in a terrible battle i took many lives, in the name of my country, yes i am proud of what i did but haunted with the memories, everyday in my dreams and faces i see on the streets people that i pass by.. it haunts me to this day.
Movies and trash should be kept away from Children so they would never want to be Pirates and plunderers.

As a real pirate myself, I have to object to all the stereotypical remarks - "arghhhh" "matey" "pegleg" "plundering" need I say more?
Give us pirates a little credit for being as smart, intelligent and sophisticated as any person. I have a nice watch, GPS, a cool boat and I do love sea food, but so what. Jimmy Carter had a soft side for seared Ahi, but no one thought of him as a pirate.

In real life it was the near certainty of dying young and not going through the hassle of growing old. The mortality rates among pirates was remarkably high. Particular causes were shipwreck and disease because pirate captains got their position by violence, and not because of their special seamanship skills. That seems to have been true for both Caribbean and North African pirates.

Most definitely it is the rum. My personal favorite is Marcel's, a retired pirate, home brew called Mort. It's served from a tin pot adorned with the scull and crossbones.

I'd say it has to be the long wait to reach an island - and then all the shagging that can be had for a couple of trinkets
