I don't where the country has been I have gotten used to the immature juvenile boys here who think that strength is fighting and the answer to everything is war. But the CIA and Army War College has said for two years there 3000+ known Chinese spy teams in the US. They especially are seeking submarine damping (how to quieted a subs noise) and satellite transfer of information. It was quiet a stir when Congress was informed that China could best us in a war and that North Korea could in all likelihood pull a draw. What bothers me is both countries might suspect that and wonder but to hear it from us should really make their day. Read these kids in here who eventually get their information from old John Wayne movies or think we could just nuke our way out of a situation. Chairman Mao dared use to use the bomb knowing full well that for us to use enough to do any good would poison the earth and they would still have men in the field. I remember when in Nam troops were massing and despite everything we had and threw at them they were still able to over run our bases. When I invited Westmoreland to visit and in his speech he disclosed he had contemplated using nukes and for the exact reasons I have mentioned he decided he could not have used them.

As Eisenhower's warned in his January 17, 1961Farewell Address to the Nation we have been sold a song and dance. We have a nuclear submarine and find out that Russia and China make a sell a diesel sub for a quarter of the cost that will do everything ours does. War games with India ended up with them beating our pilots and were justification for us buying the new F-22 Raptor. (I sort of thought if all things were equal or they had older planes and still beat us the answer was not a new plane but better training. During the Army President Eisenhower warned of the military-industrial complex and its potential to take over the country. We're ignoring his admonition. Congress won't let us close military bases to save money. Worse yet, Congress is spending trillions of dollars on weapons systems, the next fighter jet, national missile defense, more aircraft carriers and nuclear missile submarines. The justification for this gorging on weaponry is to defend against the dangers of $1.49 box-cutters. What we really need, and what the CIA is advertising for, is Americans who speak Arabic. At least the CIA seems to understand what John Locke put so succinctly some 300 years ago, "The best fence against the world is a thorough knowledge of it”.

There are three lessons for us: (1) In the losing of a war, the government's appetite for 19-year-olds is insatiable. (2) Military spending naturally increases at the unit level and therefore in the aggregate. Commanding officers always say, "Spend whatever's left or they'll cut our budget next quarter”. (3) National leaders engaged in militarism lie - often. In 1972, I was headed in harm's general direction, believing in the "domino theory" and the need to stop communism. I read the Pentagon Papers. I then knew that we were fighting a war that could not be won. In Vietnam, tens of thousands of 19-year-olds laid down their lives for presidential lies. And now the current administration delivered the ultimate, lie. The CIA Officers have stated that the “White House” altered the data given them and that what they presented Congress as reason to invaded Iraqi was a lie. That they (the CIA Officers were threaten with loss of employment and jail if they intervened. Everyone is familiar with the brave CIA officer who in the waning days of 2006 stepped forwarded at the news conference and spoke and was arrested and has not been seen or heard from again.

For me, the worst symptoms of the new dominance of militarism can be seen everyday and everywhere here in America. Millions of people seem to equate greatness with military strength, proudly asserting that "America is the most powerful nation the Earth has ever seen". Certainly billions are being spent on advertising to make the point. There's the U.S. Army-sponsored drag racer, Tony ("Sarge") Schumacher. Or the Marines' TV commercials, which make it, seem as if their job were a video game. The absolute worst symptom is that Forbes has named Northrop Grumman "2003 Company of the Year." And that weapons maker's corporate slogan, so heavily advertised, is, "Northrop Grumman, defining the future". Defining the future!
There is one more issue that the Rush and Hannity team always leave out. Our national debt that these numbskulls push by advocating war and to escalate is being paid for by China. Republicans always argue that taxes are a sin and need to be cut. That to me just shows how dumb they are! Anyway China holds more of our debt than anyone. I know you will not believe that so please check it out and when you find out it is true promise you’ll warn everyone.

Perhaps history is over if a weapons maker is defining the future. Still, let's hope we have some history yet to go. Let's hope that teachers, scientists, journalists, philanthropists and, yes, "we the people" can reclaim our rights to define our own future. God Bless You and Our Southern People.

You folks just feed off of each other. Insult the United States. Yes, that sounds fun, lets insult the US. It really is childish and it shows more about the lack of character you possess than that which you continually accuse us of.

Do I feel threatened by China? No, not exactly. I am concerned about the underlying motives that China has. Look at it this way, China equals Communism. The US equals Democracy. These two ideologies can not co-exist without one or the other being imposed on. So, we have a decision to make, are we going to promote Communism or are we going to promote Democracy.

As for the recent missile tests that China performed. I don't feel threatened. I view it as an annoyance and something that could cause future concern depending on WHEN, not if, WHEN China decides to play the aggressive card that they are holding tight to their chest right now. A number of you are making claims that the US may have met their match (militarily) where China is concerned. Go on believing that. I hope China believes that. Wishful thinking though, China isn't as simple minded as a few of you are. Nobody knows what capabilities the US has in their Star Wars arsenal. Chances are we won't know either unless the day comes that we need to use it.

It really is a sad commentary that there are a portion of you that seem to be siding with the Communistic Chinese government that has committed just about every human rights violation imagineable.

Ih, one last thing... Thank Mr and Mrs Clinton for where the Chinese are today. The Clintons and the DNC were rewarded very handsomely in their political war chests for the American military technology former President Clinton shared with the Chinese while he was in office.

I don't know why Americans would feel threatened, after all, they were the ones that have given rise to china - with known human rights abuses, membership in the WTO and UN security council.

Sadly, this started back in WWII and was caused by just one man...Winston Churchill. Now, history will tell you that the Germans started WWII. This is not true. Both Germany and Russia started WWII in September 1939 by attacking Poland. In an effort to stop Hitler, Churchill made a grave error by making Stalin (Hitler#2) an allied member - but they never were. Stalin only changed sides when the Germans attacked Russia, but this Russians were only for themselves and so the cold war started. Patton was probably the only one that notice this - that the true enemy wasn't Germany. But the vicious Russian mentally remain as the conquest did. Thanks to Churchill, again, Russia stole nuclear secrets and long story short, everybody now has nukes.

Instead of invading countries as Hitler did, the communist did it with revolutions and so, China, a once friendly ally, fell to the communist. And so they took over Mongolia, they fought with U.S. troops in Vietnam and in Korea as they took these over as well.

The succession of U.S. administrations failed in that, by aiding and becoming a friend to China, would help tame China. China will not collapse like the USSR, because everything else is already made in China. They have the cash, the weapons and the technology.

For instance, Apple now makes its world famous iPod in China and China now has that technology and know how. You might have also seen iPod knock offs selling real cheap.

Now, the grave consequence of this successful test is... that China can wipe out U.S. spy satellite - including Google earth and our GPS system. With this, our GPS guided nuclear missiles are useless, giving China a clear and superior advantage.

It's been said that there is no way to win a nuclear war. This is also not true. If you can prevent your enemy from using his arsenal and then take them out with with a nuclear strike, your opponent loses his retaliation capabilities and his territory becomes available for a large scale invasion. China can now do that - by taking out our tracking and guidance system.

A nuclear missile is useless against a target if it doesn't know where the target is. And this is what China can do. They've known about this fancy American technology called GPS for years and so they'd created missiles to take them out. You need to do this before you start WWIII.

America is so caught up with fighting terrorists, they might not see the dark storms rising.

Ironically, the book of revelation speaks of the "Kings of the East"
fielding a massive army of 200 million soldiers in the last days. Nothing, could be any clearer.

Yes, I clearly see a war with China & Russia in a surprise attack against the U.S.A. But Bible scholars state that the European Union will join forces with Russia. I find that odd, because Europe would be Russia's target - not withstanding the fact that Russia is closer to the USA.

Personally I feel it is a good thing. They are on the verge of a booming economy unlike the world has ever known. They need good ties with the United States in order to achieve the economic Goliath that awaits them. More important to them is that they demand respect. They respect us and we should show them theirs. This is why we have not strongly pressured them to deal with the North Korean situation more. They will pull the plug on North Korea when they see fit. In coming years it will be the United States and China. We will be interdependent on each others economy. Showing mutual respect will make the world a better place to live.
"China is the new sleeping giant" (Richard Nixon)

China is no friend of extremism. Together we can eventually stabilize the globe and have lasting peace.

Americans are worried about every technological achievement any country makes. They are a nation that is governed by fear, and fear will always control them. They even took a poke at canada in the fifties, because they had a supersonic fighter plane that could almost break earths gravity. They were so scared of it, they forced the canadian government to scrap the project. They have some issue with wanting to control earth. They already believe they do, and when some country stands up to them, they make some stupid excuse to go to war. Look at Iraq's weapons of mass destruction that never existed. And also north korea's attempt at building a nuke. It was the smallest atomic weapon ever made, it was laughable, but still, usa is so scared, they put sanctions on the country, and are threatening to invade. I think it's childish, and the states are going to get a wake up call one of these days, and realize they don't rule the world.

Great question. i think Robert said it well
america like to feel in control and like to think that they own the world and what any nation within it does. they say no iran you cant make a plant, no korea you cant make a bomb, no china you cant fire a missle in your own air space.
shooting down a saterlite contridicts their slogon of we are the best at everything no one else has our technology. Also china are the old enemy, the communists. we all remember how they are evil and need to be punished.
personally i enjoy listening to america rant about what people do in their back yards especially when its a nation they cant invade without being bombed themselves.

The great error, was that America made and used the atom bomb in WW2. If we would not have developed the bomb, the technology to fabricate it would not have spread out so fast. Now every one, sane of mind or not, can procure or fabricate a nuclear bomb of devastating proportions. A study was made that revealed that it takes only 20 nuclear bombs to end all life form and vegetation on earth.

because it shows not only the U.S. but the world that China has the ability to shoot down missile if the need arises , that is why China shot at there own satellite and the U.S. has yet to get that Star Wars program up and running .
