It seems that Visual Style has been disabled for whatever reason, to re-enable it, proceed as follows:

   1. Right click on "My Computer" icon.
   2. Select "Properties" (Properties dialog should pop up now.)
   3. Switch to "Advanced" tab.
   4. Under "performance"' frame, click "Settings...".
   5. A new pop up window will show up, Switch to 'Visual Effect' tab.
   6. Scroll down in the list box in that tab, and check the box entitled "use visual styles on windows and buttons"
   7. Press 'OK' repeatedly until you get out of those windows.

If that failed, then the main Theme service may be stopped for some reasons, to rerun it, proceed as follows:

   1. Open start menu
   2. Select "run"
   3. type "services.msc" without quotes, then press Enter
   4. After the Services Management Console opens, Scroll down to the service captioned "Themes"
   5. Right click on it, and select "Properties" (a window will pop up)
   6. Click on the combo box beside "startup" label and select "Automatic"
   7. Under "Service Status", click on "Start" button.
   8. After all done, press "OK", and close the Services Management Console window.

If all failed, you may have to perform a scan on system files for corruption using the native System File Checker (start >> run >> sfc /scannow >> enter).

Thanks.

otherwise try this theme..http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Royale-Theme-for-WinXP-Download-13027.html,this is a zip file and once unzipped using winzip(http://www.winzip.com/)
this theme is actually included in the media center version of windows xp and has much more intense colours than the xp defualt version
