Training or isolation is your only hope.

Isolation may not work because the dog could bark anyways.

To train the dog is simple. Grab some treats and the vacum cleaner. Call your dog over and ask him to sit next to the vacum and reward when he listens. Work up slowly to the vacum being on but no vacumming. Trains him to ignore more and more, then try vacumming.

If he barks and attacks the vacum tell him to sit and reward, when you are finished the cleaning take some time and play with your pup. He won't attack the vacum anymore.

Dogs don't like the sound of certain things but he could also just want to play. Teach him that he is never allowed to play with the vacum.

Lot's of dogs bark at the vacum cleaner. The noise both scares them and sometimes hurts their ears. Just put it in a different room!

On 'it's me or the dog' Victoria Stilwell does a removal technique...puts a lead and collar on the dog and puts the hoover on... as the dog begins to bark take him out of the room...pay him no attention... wait until he has calmed down then bring him back into the room....if he barks again take him straight back out of the room... continue this procedure until he is able to be in the same room as the hoover without reacting...

if this isn't something you can do (would usually take a couple of people to use the technique) then best to just put him in another room whilst you are hoovering..

I had a dog that did that...the vacume cleaner actually had teeth marks on it. Usually I just put him outside while i vacumed.

It's jealous of the vacum cleaner.Ok,you probably pay less attention to it when you do your houseworks. That's why it barks, unless it's a sixth-sense dog which envisages ghosts!

Dogs bark for a number of reasons it's their way of comunication.
1they bark for attention..they want your time..
2they bark if they are startled or afraid..most dogs are afraid of the unknown..a noise in the dark a sudden unusual noise.
3some sounds are to hard on the dogs ears i.e. the sound of a mouth organ.or the vaccuum cleaner..so they might whine or bark..and even try to switch it off..
4 they bark to let you know there are strangers around ..it could be a threat to you the top dog or themselves..
5 they bark when it's time for them to eat..
6or they might just want to play..
listen to your dog it is more intelligent than we give them credit for..
if you call it ...stupid dog always barking.. think who might be the stupid one...

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.
