LCD is cheaper to repair....

Plasmas burn images into them if you watch the News shows with the Stock Quotes on them....Or play games and pause them....Or watch a movie and pause them....

The only reason you should buy PLASMA is.....
Because you NEED a TV that hangs on the wall due to space limitations!

Plasmas haven't been known to last a long time (half its brightness within a couple years), LCDs, when they have a pixel go out, you will usually see a red or green dot there, and it can stand out quite a bit. plasmas produce more heat. I really would suggest a rear projection tube style tv like SXRD, LCoS, etc. When they hit half-life in a similar amount of time, you can just replace the bulb, and the tv will be 'like new' again. A traditional tube like the 34" XBR from Sony still has the best over all picture, but is too small for your application. I am currently using a LCD for my game system, it looks great, but there are slight viewing angle issues (dimmed or washed out colors past a certain viewpoint). I believe Plasmas are better about this. The best advice I think anyone could give you is go to a store like Circuit City/Best Buy/etc. that have a lot of displays you can take you sweet time and stare at them from every angle you would at your home, mess with the settings to make sure it they not tweaked different so you can give your eyes an honest comparison. You will know what will look the best, in the best price range. I think overall each of their longevity and reliability is comparable.

Good points on both sides. Plasma cheaper, better in subdued lighting, no rainbows with high speed action. LCD uses less power, better in bright settings, but more expensive and can make rainbows unless you pay higher end for increased refresh rates.
