Napoleon said when the Chinese dragon sleeps let him slumber for when he wakens the world shall tremble. They seem to be awake now so yes it is a worry. However its worth remembering that the Chinese economy is largely an assembly plant for other peoples ideas when they invest in research and developement at the same rate then be very afraid.MickUK.

The so called"Red China" is on the verge of an economic boom unlike the world has ever seen. This type of explosion in an economy is a wonderful thing for the Chinese people. This Goliath will be interdependent on the United States and the rest of the world. When a Communist country becomes an economic powerhouse it risks a fall from within because of it's interdependence on the rest of the world and most of all the United States.
Eventually China will become as Hong Kong is now. Capitalistic instead of Communistic.
As long as we give them the respect that is of the utmost importance to them.
Communism cannot survive unless it is used globally. The Chinese government knows this and they are no friend to extremists.
Eventually China and America can walk hand in hand interdependently on each other stabilizing the world and isolating the hot spots.

China right now is going through the industrial revolution that America was during the 30's and 40's. Sooner or later, the citizens will want the same lifestyle we got from our wealth, and they will get it. Just as Japan has "Americanized", so will China. The need for 400 thousand soldiers would only be needed to protect it's own borders, not attack ours. China, although an athiest communist country, has always been our friend. I know it hurts some, that American industry has moved to China and taken our jobs, but we can only blame ourselves for pricing ourselves out of the world market with our greed.

The world has been concerned about China since they detonated their first nuclear weapon back on October 16, 1964.

With their expanding economy and the billions being spent on their military the world is very concerned and on the verge of becoming worried.

Concerned but not worried. I believe China should be worried about Democracy though. As free enterprise becomes more and more available in China, it will be harder and harder to stop it. China will have to either embrace Democracy or squash it pretty soon. They are behind the sale of weopons that are supplied to Americas enemies. I believe if they do not have a cival war in China, that country will be a democratic society soon.

To tell you the truth, the whole world is far more worried with the U.S. military adventurism and war-making tendencies, than China's growing might. Only the U.S. is getting worried of China's growing influence.

Of course we should be worried.
China has demonstrated brutal oppression of its own ppl and aggression towards tibet and taiwan.
It has demonstrated its anti satellite capability.
Its military expansion is many times over and above that required for its own defence. Its nuclear weapon range spans the globe.
In the past, china has backed north korea ,north vietnam and the vietcong.Chinese troops engaged macarthur lead UN troops in north korea.

We should force the hand of china now before the tide turns

When I was a kid, I remember my grandfather in his discussions to often say, "Let the yellow dragon sleep for if it wakes up, it will swallow us all." At the time I did not understand what he meant by yellow dragon, now of course I do. China's strongest weapon today is her economy and not her army or weaponry, if China decides to pull all her money (trillions of dollars) out of American banks, the American economy will instantly collapse and we'll be killing each other over a loaf of bread.

That's a big yes. Don't forget the trade imbalance. China is filling all those WalMart stores with cheaper and cheaper products and yet we buy them. Their growing economy will drive up prices here, especially the gas.
