There are lots of thing that I always suggest, but especially for the first day, stick to cold things that require no or very little chewing. I always say ice cream, ice cream and then some more ice cream, it helps to numb the pain and fills your stomach too. Also try scrambled eggs, with cheese too, but avoid toast or biscuits too hard to chew and sticks to your brackets and wires. Other foods, stuffed baked potato's, spaghetti (no meatballs), mac and cheese, soups, with crackers softened in the soup, or try some smoothies. If you think of the foods that you like, I'm sure you will find some that you love, just avoid the things you have to bite into like pizza or burgers, those that you have to chew for more than a couple of times before you swallow, tough foods, like some over cooked meats, and things that will stick badly to your braces, peanut butter, breads and such. Take Motrin or Advil to help ease the pain of the adjustment of new braces for the next couple of days and then again after you have adjustments monthly. In a few days start slowly adding harder foods, those with different textures or that require more chewing back into your diet. Go slow with it, your teeth will be a little loose and you don't want to make them more sore by excessive chewing. Good luck! Hope I was of some help to you. It will get easier and really will be worth it in the end!

Bread can be bad as it really gets in your braces and is hard to clean. Try eggs, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, soup, oatmeal, stew, ice cream, yogurt, puddings, jello, pasta.
If you do eat any kind of sandwiches, break off bite size pieces so you aren't biting into the sandwiches - it makes it much easier. Good luck!
