Church bulletins, grocery store bulletins. Call a friend and see if she has a sister or neice or even another friend who would know someone of age that would be willing to babysit.

If I needed a babysitter for an hour or 3,I'd try with my parents, with my sister, with a teenager in the neighbourhood who I trust. If I needed a baby sitter for a long time(2-3 years) I'd send my child to kindergarten or I'd look in the internet for babysitters(or in the newspaper).

The American Red Cross offers classes for babysitters, and should be able to point you in the right direction. But like most things, good old-fashioned word of mouth is usually the best way. Talk to other parents with children about the same age as yours.

I would either ask the neighbor kid if they sit or I'd ask a friend who they use or I'd use a service. I have used a hotel sitter when I've stayed at pricey hotels. All of these are of course if Gramma isn't available!

Your local red cross has a list of those that are certified and looking to provide child care and they usually come with references too.
