There is no scientific merit to the theory of Intelligent Design. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_Design for more discussion on this issue.

Good Luck!!!

First Intelligent design is not a theory it is a hypothesis, and a fairly poor one at that.

A theory is a hypothesis that has been shown to be true by experimental study.

Intelligent Design seems to explain a lot of things, but it does not stand up to scientific scrutiny.
No papers on Intelligent Design has ever been published in any mainstream journal.

No. The God of Christians has been in retreat for many centuries. From the OT vengeful God of plague and famine, thunderbolts and lightning, through "all things bright and beautiful", the role of an omnipotent creator has contracted progressively. ID shows God`s CV reduced to the molecular level, a` God of the gaps`, seeking niches and corners where Science is defied for a spell, until another `gap`is adopted. No more grand designs, just petty hide and seek!

I don't see how it can stand up to scrutiny. There are too many questions to support the null hypothesis - If we were designed with a purpose, why do we have a vestigial organ such as the appendix? How would you explain the fossil record? Why did all those creatures fail?

Well, I believe that a supernatural being (God) created the world and life on it. We are just such complex beings that we had to being created from something just as complex. I mean if you put sand, water and pond goo in water you just aren't going to create a human being or an animal for that matter. There has to be an intelligent designer. It just makes sense to me. So, there is a lot of merit.
