Strictly speaking...No! Escort is a word that has been used for centuries and means what it suggests...one person escorting another, a companion, a guard, a protector, etc.

However, modern usage has changed the meaning for one purpose, to (very) thinly disguise a call girl service. If you see an advertisment offering escort services you can be pretty sure you will be contacting a call girl service if you dial the number.

But, in the dictionary, the word 'escort' is still a valid word that can be used without fear of misunderstanding (unless you are placing an advertsiement, of course)

Hope that helps,

Call Girl Meaning

An escort is basically a paid date to show off. You want to be seen with this person and generally the clothes stay on. If you see some guy walking into a bar surrounded by hot chicks, generally those are not groupies like he is trying to tell everyone they are.

A call girl is for those that can't find somebody to have sex with, especially late at night.

I believe there are escorts who aren't call girls (or men). Almost always today though, escort means call girl or prostitute. It is a legal cover to avoid problems of illegality of prostitution. I think the original sense was someone you could avail for free or for money the company of in attending formal social occasions. There is also the sense of a protector (or sometimes monitor) who traveled with someone weaker or more prone to getting into trouble, in times past. But it seems like the basic sense in which some navy ships are called destroyer escorts.

Yeah, you can escort someone, which means to protect them or transport them somewhere.

I believe that's where we get the term today for "call girls". An escort is someone who can take you around town, show you the key points and whatnot... But really it's just another name for them so the companies can operate legal prostitution rings :\
