of course, it's common, i used to attend a church that encouraged people to take out a second mortgage on their house so that they could put a big sum into the "building project" for their church. The bible school i went to also encourages the alumni to leave their estate to them. I was also in a church where the pastor told us that we should be "honored" just to come and mow his lawn. lol. I don't attend church anymore, by the way.

If your believe that God created the earth and you have no family or loved ones to leave your assets to, then research and find a worthy cause that is all about the preservation of the planet. Or one that helps disadvantaged children. Do your research, don't let some grubby money-grabbing church take your hard-earned assets from you. Ask them what they plan to do with the money? I'm sure you could find a better use for it. They (the churches) are pilferers.

The more traditional churhes do this quite often. They get a LOT of money this way. Why do you think they run alot of old peoples homes and work with the elderly? However they dont often just come out and ask for it like that
