I have taken many photographs and host them on my website. A company has got in touch and said that they'd like to use some in a book. At the moment they're just putting it together. But, how much should I charge per photo. I think they'll be using at least 5. Any ideas.

If you're guessing please say so, otherwise say why you said the price you did.

PS - I don't know how many copies of the book will be printed.

First make sure they are a legitimate company, then work out a loyalties agreement - as you say you don't know how many copies will be printed. Make sure they credit you - you could be spotted and make a career out of this. Ask the retail price of the book and how many pictures will be in it. You don't want to charge too high a price because they mightn't use them then and then you won't become famous. That's fantastic that you've been spotted!

Congratulations! Personally, I would think about using an agency to negotiate on your behalf - they will know the market rates etc. You will have to pay commission, but you will be better off, possibly, in the long run. The agency may also know how to place other photographs of yours.
