I've been asked to make a mood board for school and I'm a bit confused on what to do.
We are currently making a skirt and mine is going to be blue.

I want to do a moodboard with a blue theme to it - is this what the teacher is asking me to do and will it fit in with the project? Or do I just have to do one on skirts?

And if I do do a blue theme, can I just put anything blue on it or does it have to be blue skirts? And can anyone give me any ideas of pictures I could use?

Thanks,
Lorna

Hey I've done these for years. Its basically anything that the colour blue and skirts inspire you to think of, whether it be an emotion such as happiness or comfort, a blue sky on a bright day, the sea or water, basically anything you like that's blue. You don't have to just use pictures, but fabrics, small bits and bobs you have lying around. Just feel free to stick anything on that inspires you. I think its best to try and imagine what style of skirt you will eventually like to make, straight, floaty, denim style, what length, type of fabric and try to show elements of the texture and shape of the skirt also. If I can offer you any more help, I'll be pleased toi do so. A mood board is really just to show what ideas you are starting out with. Don't worry about it too much and just have fun!

A mood board shows your thinking process while coming up with the main idea. A mood board can be used for anything from a piece of art to a colour scheme for interior decoration. For instance for your skirt think about the feel of the fabrics you want to use before thinking about the colour. So you could have some brown material on your board but it represents the feel of the material you want to use. You can cut out pictures from magazines, use swatches of material, even wallpaper pieces to show pattern etc. If your skirt is for summer you could use pictures of shells, the seaside etc. The mood board should show your train of thought from conception of the idea to the finished product. Use an A3 piece of paper or card and staple or glue the items to it. You could do design sketches of your skirt in black charcoal and put these on the page. You could write underneath each item how it contributes to the overall idea.
