I don't really see the need for it but I have seen people on the television show JAG carrying weapons at times. While I understand this may not be truth I wanted some clarification on if they are issued them and are trained with them. I know Marine Officers are trained with them, as far as issued them I am uncertain. Also if anyone knows of any other occupations within the military that are available to people with a color-vision deficiency please let me know. Thanks!

All members of the army (except perhaps the clergy & doctors)) are required to qualify with the M16A rifle. When I served all officers were also required to qualify with a sidearm; the 45 caliber M1911A (Colt). Today officers qualify with the 9mm Beretta M9.

JAG officers carry either the M9 or the M16 when they are in a combat zone such as Iraq...as every officer does in Iraq. Back in the states JAG officers don't carry a weapon on a daily basis. They can be issued on as needed basis.

Yeah, TV show make it seem like JAG's are always using pistols. In reality most of their time is taken up doing paperwork and doing what ever Lawyers do.

The only military occupation not required to carry weapons are members of the clergy.

If you don't want to train with weapons, become proficient in their usage, and carry them....you might not want to join the military.

Weapons are issued but with authority from the government.
