Like it is mentioned before, the measuring system is built into our consciousness. People are used to it and do not want to change. Same reason that we keep the pennies around, even though the materials used to make pennies are worth more than the currency values they represents, essentially a penny is not even worth a penny.

The only way to switch is doing it cold turkey by introducing metric system into every aspect our lives and phase out the english system by stopping to make products in English system.

Basically it's cultural inertia. We've been using the English system since the colonists first set foot here. Just last week NASA announced that it would switching to all metric in the new moon program. Currently it has to use both systems since it deals with many international partners. This cost us a Mars lander a few years back because NASA failed to realize a set of values needed for the entry into Mars atmosphere were provided by the supplier in metric form, NASA though the numbers were in the English system, and it burned up.

Because this country was founde on principles that absolute power corrupts absolutly.. If you imagine a place where time after time it's people were conquered and ruled and the usual result was corruption; Then it's people had to adapt a system of honerable exchange.. The United states grew out of people recognizing the best attributes of the english sytem. I think in a nutshell the english system gives people a chance to incorporate thoughts collectivly; whereas the metric ultimately ends up in an aristocratics bungle! If you want further insight into madness look how the world powers are wrestling over the use of a period (.) or a comma (,) There's plenty of insanity to go around.

Because it would not benefit the U.S. to do so. Our system has been in place too long and to try to change everything over would not be to our financial benefit. It would cost too much. Itis just not practical. Besides, everyone knows that us monsters in the U.S enjoy having 12 fingers and 12 toes! LOL!

It would cost a great deal of money and confusion. Everything would have to be re-labled,manuals would have to be re-written,cook books, scales, clothing, everything! The tax payers would have to foot the bill. It would just cause too many problems.
