When people ask me if I have a family, are you married?ect. If I tell them What a hard time I had,
like living with a violent alcoholic father and insane
mother, they stop speaking to me, even though they asked the initial questions. Maybe I should
change my story. I was born of rich parents. They
bought me my first corvette at 16, sent me to harvard. I wear the most expensive clothes and
put the most expensive moose in my hair and lay on the beach, for I have so much money. Sounds
good?

It's very important to be honest about your past.
I came from a home with a violent alcoholic father, but my mom wasn't insane, she was just stupid and mindless, turned a blind eye to the fact that our lives were hell. But I managed to break that cycle....I am proud of who I have become.
Don't stop telling people of your past, but also add that your life is so much better now.

I think as a conversation starter you wouldn't want to go right into your past like that. If someone asks if your marrried or have a family...it should be a simple answer like yes or no. After you get to know someone a little better then you can start to let out more and more. But to drop the ball like that can scare people off. Take it slower.

discretion. it is really none of anyone's business about the past, most don't really care when they do ask, and sometimes things are better left unsaid, but being dishonest is a horrible trait. It will get you into more trouble because it will always catch up to you at some point in time.

if some one asks u about ur family u just say yes and if they are more inquisitive just tell them what they do, u dont have to dwell into details becuase ur family is no one elses business. but dont go on a rant about ur past, always a bad idea, it usually comes across as pathetic unless the person id ur close friend and confidante who will understand ur feelings.

No, I say be honest about your life........about where you came from & who you are.
People need to accept you for YOU, not what your family is like.
When we grow up with parents like that or other major problems it shapes us into being better people as we grow.
Be sorry about your past and what your problems are or have been. But be PROUD of how you turned out inspite of that.

Tell them you were adopted and are looking for your biological mother/father. When they ask you these questions, stare at them then bear hug them and call them mom/dad and hit them up for some money. That'll stop them from asking you personal questions.

You don't have to lie about anything. Just tell them - yes I have a family, but we don't speak. Trust me - it's not uncommon.
My family doesn't speak to me and when someone asks I just say "We're estranged." God Bless from someone who cares:)

It was not your fault that you had a hard time growing up.
You can choose not to talk about your past but making things up would be a stupid idea.
