Yes that is a good question. I mean obviously your brain waves, your concious thought is just electrical impulses, an energy pattern and once your brain is no longer living how can it support the energy. I'm no scientist but I know that energy needs to be stored or....well what does happen to it? Because we know it can't be created or destroyed so it changes into something else right, that's a scientific fact. What exactly it changes into we don't really know because we haven't got a way of measuring that loss of energy from the body yet.
I was brought up not believing in an afterlife. I have considered the teachings of many religions and found their views on the afterlife fundimentally flawed, they are mostly superstitious nonsense.
As I said, I'm no scientist, I was trained in law, we were taught to follow the weight of evidence. There is no proof one way or the other what happens to the human spirit after we die. Over the years I have seen more and more evidence that there could be something in the theory that we continue. Read the case of Shanti Devi for just one and there's thousands more cases which suggest the continuation of the spirit. There is no evidence at all to support the death is the end belief.
Over the years the academic in me has been force to reevaluate this obvious "truth" that there is no life after death. We think we are so clever now but there is still so much we don't understand about the world we live in and about ourselves, particularly about how our brains work. At the moment we don't know, not for sure, and it is foolish to believe anything unquestioningly so I will continue to keep an open mind. In fact of course it's irrelevant what any of us believes as we can guarentee one thing, we will all find out eventually one way or another.

Let me start by saying, I'm not truly a believer. Neither will I say that I know there is no God. On this question I thought of something my brother told me. He isn't a believer either; he thinks that believing in Heaven is somewhat like like the lottery. (Please don't take offense to that, it is not meant at all the be that way). Essentially, as he says, people invest their time and faith in something, hoping that at the end of "life" they will "win" something better - life by God's side. It's hard to explain the entire concept in this forum, sorry! I guess just like those who play the real lottery and use that hope of winning and a better life to cope through everyday, religious people feel the same about faith. If they can make certain sacrifices, live their lives right, then in the end they will be rewarded. I won't say whether I believe in the afterlife, because I'm not dead and I just don't know. I will say for those people that undoubtedly do believe in Heaven, I think it is awesome that you have something to hold on to. I also think that its great for those of you who can turn to this belief and your faith in tought times when others die.

Because in a sense, it doesn't stand to reason.
In nature, nothing is wasted. A tree falls in the forest and it rots and becomes fertilizer for the forest floor. Matter turns to energy, then energy back to matter.
Why would a resource such as consciousness be wasted then?
Now, as far as the flights of fancy humans take when guessing exactly HOW the adventure continues, or how cohesive each individual consciousness remains...that's another matter altogether.

And why is it so hard for some people to face the fact that when we die, there's more to it, for life on earth is not futile? Pretty similar huh dude? As a Muslim, contrary to popular but false belief, I'm forbidden by my religion to force or impose Islam on any non-Muslims. That's that. But I think you should investigate more about this matter, for you owe it to yourself pal, just in case there really is life after death, so that you may not suffer eternal damnation. But again, this is not a compulsion, it's merely a suggestion.
Good luck!

More then 1400 years back The God All mighty mentioned in Holy Book I will raise every one and every one will see his or her past history clearly.
Now almost after 1400 years , we know through development of science that DNA of every person contains history of that person and scientists are trying to explore more from DNA.
This only one of lots of other example proves authenticity of religious Book. So there is no doubt about life after death as well.

Because most people need something to believe in. It makes them feel better in daily life.
People need to focus on every day as if it were their last day on Earth.
Religion is so ingrained into our society.

They need to cling to some false hope that there is some reward for them believing in their god.
And to those saying, how can you prove there's nothing after death - YOU PROVE THERE IS SOMETHING
