I've had a bad cough now for about a week and despite taking medicine for it 3-4 times a day it just isn't going away. Is it possible I have a chest infection?

If your chest is sore when you cough and you cough up coloured phlegm, like green, go and see your doctor you might need anti-biotics.

It sounds like a chest infection... drink plenty of fluids and do not take antibiotics as they can make the situation worse. Let your body recover naturally and the frequency of chest infections will get less as time goes on.

The whole medical industry keeps telling you to take antibiotics and IMHO they are not doing the body any good at all.

It is possible but you can't self-diagnose! See a doctor and if it is a chest infection, they will give you antibiotics to clear it. Good luck!!

If you are coughing up stringy phlegm then it is viral, drink lots of water and rest up, it has to take its course.
If you are coughing up globby phlegm, then it is bacterial and you need antibiotics quick smart...and eep up the fluids still.

It's gross but it's all about the colour of your phlegm! If it's yellow it's infected, if it's green it's not.
