Where in New Jersey would be a good place to live if you're commuting to NYC for work. Someplace priced decent, not crazy.

I commute to NYC every day for school. I live way out in the boondocks, it usually takes me a good hour-and-a-half to get to Penn Station. However, the one good thing about it is that there is a train station right near my house. If you are looking into using NJ Transit, which I highly recommend because people in this state can't drive for ****, I would recommend looking in the Morristown or Madison areas. Also, Maplewood and Millburn are very nice and not too pricey.

If you are looking to live close to New York, then the counties of New Jersey along the Hudson River are the closest, though not the cheapest as these areas are becoming known for their proximity to New York City.

Fort Lee, NJ, Newport, Weehawken, Jersey City, Union City are some locations close to New York City.

Another option (while still being in New York City), would be to live in one of the outer boroughs in New York (Brooklyn, Bronx, or Queens) which have wonderful neighborhoods to raise a family and still remain in the city and relatively close to Manhattan.
