You don't use it every day in an identification sense. It is mostly used to track a person's financial record, jail time, work history. Sure, it's every important thing, but not every thing in their daily lives. Don't need it for most things, just some.
It can solve a few problems. Tracking income to give out welfare-type social bonuses, income tax, with strict border control it can help with external terrorism.
I'm assuming you're in college, or at least somewhat educated with access to other educated young people. I would research the subject, go to www.ssa.gov and read. You can learn a lot about our system. Then find arguments for such a system, and start working people onto your side. It would be incredibly difficult, especially in a country of your size. The act of documenting everyone would be so expensive as to make it nearly impossible. The work involved would also discourage businesses a tiny bit because of the new requirements and what it would cost them, dinging the economy. If I understand correctly, your economy is in a 'boom' phase, and any sort of unnecessary damage would be a bad, bad thing.
The real answer. Get to know the subject, convince people. Fight. But unless they see a *real* need for it, don't expect to much. You can always do the education now, and actually suggest it later, when it IS needed.

I think it is a good idea, if it can be used with confidentiality and for better informed governance in our country. Already we have the PAN card, the driving licence crd, the voter identity card, the employer ID card, the ration card etc., but it will be useful to have the Social Security Number as the link number.
This can be achieved through the voter ID creation process.

Idea is very good and it is the need of the hour. It owrks in two ways as:
1. to recognise our elders so that the younger generation can learn the values of life and bondage among the people.
2. If their expertise is indicated, the society can use their experience in getting the valuable advice, suggestions and way to work for better results.

No. No SS# is required. I grew up in a childhood family of Roman Catholic and a few Eastern Orthodox Catholics...I was baptized at age 3 (very late according to many Catholics). I don't believe in ANY Catholic thing now. I prefer to think for myself.
