I just thought of this quote and want to know if it's any good, I don't know if it's ever been said before but I just thought of it.

"If you're a self proclaimed anything, you're a self proclaimed fool"

basically meaning that anyone can say "I'm an artist" or "I'm a writer" but that doesn't make them that. Do you think it's a good quote?

No. I don't agree at all. What makes someone an artist? Or a writer? Is it being published or having a painting bought? Is it talent? How do you judge talent? Who gets to decide.

If I say I'm a writer, I'm a writer. I may not be a great writer. I may not be a published writer. But if I'm writing prose, poetry, songs, plays, speeches, letters or diaries (as examples) then I'm a writer. Even if no one else ever sees my work.

Calling such a person a fool is demeaning, inappropriate and shows a lack of understanding of the word. I should know. I'm a writer.

I like that quote; it's similar to-

“He who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client”

“To speak and to speak well, are two things. A fool may talk, but a wise man speaks.”

“A fine quotation is a diamond in the hand of a man of wit and a pebble in the hand of a fool.”

“Never argue with a fool. Someone watching may not be able to tell the difference.”

“It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than open one's mouth and remove all doubt.”

“It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than open one's mouth and remove all doubt.”

*****How about if one is a self-proclaimed fool? ~MMK

“Never argue with a fool. Someone watching may not be able to tell the difference.”

f0r sure,, its kinda cute... i mean.. it does make sense.. you are sure creative... atleast creative enough to think up words such as self-proclaimed. it could be rephrased though.. it could be like : "better to be nothing than to be a self-proclaimed fool"

Yes, it is a good one, and I've never heard of it. Keep composing! There will always be room for improvement.

It lacks substance. I personally prefer "self-perception is deception".
