Surely the highlight of any managers career is to be remembered for winning major trophies or by bringing pride to your country. Surely to walk out on your country during a tight and succesful qualifying campaign to takeover a club in major turmoil with no immeadiate hope of success is disgraceful behaviour for one of the so called senior figures of Scottish football.

Of course he's a traitor. He was tapped up by David 'squeaky wheels' Murray and Rangers should be investigated for it like Chealski were for tapping up Ashley Cole.

He already done his "dream job" and left it when the transfer funds dried up, now he's there to steady the ship so Old Squeaky Wheels can flog Rangers to the highest and stupidest bidder.

Rangers have shown themselves up for the thoughtless careless bunch of trash they are. They don't care about Scotland or the naional team.

I am an Englishman, but have been intrigued by this subject when it hit the news. I have thought long and hard over the Dilemna that presented itself to Walter Smith.
I think you are correct with your statement, that it should be the pinnacle of anyone's career to manage there mother country. But you also forget how Walter Smith must have felt to see his beloved Rangers, trailing Celtic by a huge margin in the SPL. He was really caught between a rock and a hard place, and I for one would not have liked to make his choice.
What everyone seems to forget, is that money runs football. How long did ot take for the SFA to decide that they would sue Walter Smith for breach of contract, yet the 'pay off' offered by Rangers appeased the SFA immediately.
What all scots need to remember is that in the short time Walter Smith was in charge of Scotland, he restored pride, dignity and fight into a team that all to easily rolled over under pressure. It is a loss for Scotland, but he has built a foundation that the next manager can build on. Remember what he achieved, before berating a man for making a decision that no-one would want to be asked to make.

You conveniently ignore what Walter Smith inherited from Wee Bertie and how he transformed that into a team that we could be proud of. The new Manager will inherit a decent side well placed in their Group. The SFA never showed the same faith in Walter that the fans had and it turns out now that Tommy Burns is of the same opinion. Since when is changing an uncertain future into a certain future traitorous? Sounds like you are Media brainwashed.

Of course not in this society you can get fired and you can change your job and I bet if the new Scotland manager needs an assessment from Walter he will do all he can to help and at least he left it in a better state than when he took over so good luck Walter good luck

I have to say I was against the appointment of Walter Smith in the first place.....But he won me around and did a great job!! I think he ran to the place where his heart was and treated the National team with contempt!.... It will be interesting to see how many Scots play for him at Rangers!.... judging by his last spell there...not many! Part of the reason Scotland's national team was in the doldrums for years was that the 'big 2' would never buy Scottish and as a manager of one of those teams He was partly responsible for our downfall!!... Hopefully now he has experienced being National manager he will think twice before bringing in more and more 3rd rate foreigners and concentrate on home grown talent......That will at least give future National managers something to work with!!

Well he had 18 months left on a contract no talks for a new 1 on the table even after all he dne for scottish football he truned bertis mess around. Rangers came in with more money longer contract meaning more job security. 9 out of 10 ppl would go for more money and more job and a longer contract.

Traitor is too strong a word. Think he realised France was a jammi result and jumped ship before he got found out! If I was a Rangers fan, i'd be worried that Murray gave in to Ferguson, the Jade Goody of Scottish Fitba, and has obviously given up any pretence of ambition with this backward step!
